Ford Crankshaft

Ive just been delivered my crankshaft . . . .its a 6 bolt Ford item for Kent type engines . . . I intend to use it on a precrossflow engine, I've been told its an Iron billet crank as opposed to a standard cast iron one.

It has 2431.E cast on one web . . . .

I'm confused now . . . .if it was billet surely it would be fully machined?

I didnt pay much for it, and it looks in good shape, so even if it is std cast iron its not the end of the world.

anyone got any ideas?
thanks
Joe

THR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
well i suppose "iron billet" means cast really
kinda a grey one tho

normally they are cast with grey iron?
hence the casting number.
cant cast on a billet really!
cos its just a lump of steel

a billet wont be fully machined, only the working faces. and it may well be stamped with a number on the balances or summin.

wack it in.... if it sonuds better than the one you run at the moment!

Im sure its just cast . . . . as my donor engine has the same No's . . .its off to be checked, ground (if req'd) and tuftrided . . . .will balance when Ive got beans for a steel flywheel and new clutch.

'Billet' components are machined from a solid block of metal; they are machined all over. If it's not machiened all over, it's either cast or forged.

What other numbers has it got on it? look for something like GC0978 or GC0979.

I work for a company that 'casts' parts for Ford so might be able to help if you have the numbers (if they are ones we have done).
