Definitely. The wide rear wing is a must. These 'skinny' rear wings are ugly.

I follow Super GT lightly and pop in to catch up with the latest every once in a while (I would follow it like I do DTM but there is no English commentary - I must learn Japanese!), and I have a "beginner's" question. How fast are the Super GT GT500 cars compared to DTM and the FIA WEC GTE cars? And what about the GT300? I saw that this year that the times for GT500 at Fuji were down in the 1:31.xxx range whereas FIA WEC GTE cars last year ran in the 1:40.xxx range. Can there really be this big of a difference, or is there something I'm missing? |

GT500 is LMP2 pace.
GT300 is slightly faster than GTE. Yes they are that much faster. |

No way that GT300 cars are faster than GTE. Almost all GT300 cars are now FIA GT3 that use a similiar FIA bop. Is true that 2013 GT300 pole position has been faster than the 2012 WEC gt-pro one, but you need to consider that GT3 cars have more power than GTE car and fuji track is a sort of japanese paul ricard where power is more important than aero. Not the best track to compare the performances. I am sure that at suzuka WEC GTE will run 1-2 seconds faster than GT300 cars. GT300 cars have always been more powerfull than 300hp. GT1 and GT2 cars of previous season like murcielago, ford GT, dbr9, mclaren f1, 430 GTC were restricted to 450-500hp, GT3 cars have 500 and more hp, current and past JAF prototypes not less than 400hp. |

A note on GT300 cars - they have upwards of 450bhp. The Prius shares its engine with the Rebellion Lola LMP1 and the GT500 car...
GT500 has more than 500bhp. JAF GT300 has way more downforce than GTE. The Fuji sector times are telling, especially S3 |

Yes I believe the classes started off with a notion of having 300 and 500hp respectively but that hasnt been the case for years. James Courtney has commented as saying that when he drove the GT500 Supra in mid 2000s it had somewhere in the vicinity of 650hp in qualifying so in race spec would have to be well over 500hp.

GT300 has a variety of options to run from. More weight but more power, or the opposite. Japanese Samurai posted a bop sheet a while back, I think the BRZ CR-Z and Prius had the option to run between 1100-1200kg. GTE wouldn't be nearly as quick if they were the same specs. GT3 cars are a bit faster it seems. Zanfro, the BRZ took two consecutive poles, not just Fuji.

system weight 57kg for CRZ and 102kg for prius. Their hybrid make them a considerable heavy car, that's the reason why prius uses the RV8K engine and the CRZ the honda v6 lmp2 engine. About timelaps, need to consider also that in gt300 there are few real pro drivers, so I keep on thinking that in a track like fuji GT3 cars will be more competitive than GTE because of power, while in other tracks will be slower than GTE because of worse aero. JAF prototypes can't be compared because are prototypes, if they would run less unrestricted and with less ballast they would be running in DTM timelaps or even faster, there would be no match against GT cars as was happening until 2009-2010. About GT500 power, I know that during late '90 early 2000, when GT500 were basicly a sort of GT2/GT1 mix turbo powered cars and not silhouette prototypes like now, the power was close to 700hp |

Where are you getting the 700hp figure from? Everything I've ever read regarding the GT500 cars from 2000ish JGTC era indicates between 450 and 500 in race trim

when the R35 SuperGT car came out in 2008, there was this video where one of the head engineers, Ricardo(Richard?) Divila, says it would make about 700-800hp *without* a restrictor...but he still says its about 500 with it...

SGT500 cars started to use restrictors for the engine just recently. Some years ago was used revlimiters and mandatory turbo pressure. During qualifying cars had less restrictions so JGTC GT500 could use much more power.
