Money Money Money

Today i was asked how much would a V8 supercar driver earn in wages per year ???

of course i didnt have a clue , we all know that some lucky f1 drivers earn millions of dollars each year but what about our local hero's?

some are gonna say too much and some are gonna say not enough..but from what I have seen of their houses and things on TV they certainly make a very good living.

so without winnings or sponsorship bonuses how much do you think a V8 supercar drivers makes just on wages each year ?

Ray Bell should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
In a conversation with a well-known journalist a couple of years ago, he told me that he'd asked Jim Richards how much he was getting on the Winfield team... about $100,000pa was the reply... plenty I would think...

i suppose drivers would be getting more than that these days, and i think they deserve it. Considering how easy it is to become a professional golfer or tennis player, and earn good money doing it, why shouldn't racing drivers earn big bucks as well.

Yeah I know what you mean...I was thinking the other week of making millions of dollars for hitting a little ball into a hole but as it was to easy I decided to just stick with my boring normal job instead.

I meant there are more professional golfers and tennis players than professional racing car drivers, and they seem to earn more money as well, which in some ways doesn't seem right.

Then again, there is a golf course and tennis court in every second suburb, so there are a lot more participants, and you would expect that there are a lot more people living out of a suitcase, trying to make a living through their sport.

Then again, golf is hardly dangerous...

Hrmmm.... then again, I derive a lot of pleasure from beating people and seeing them snap their clubs, throw their bag in drink etc...and I suppose that could easily turn nasty

Don't get me started on indoor cricket. Cricket is meant to be played outside, in the fresh air.

Meh...at indoor you are always involved in the game, it is quick, it doesn't get rained out, and I'm alergic to grass

Could someone "in the know" please confirm whether Simon Wills is actually a "paid driver" in the John Briggs Racing team?

I can't imagine Briggs actually paying someone to have their car brought back after each race with wheels and panels hanging off it every time, but stranger things have happened I guess.

After Wills fine Bathurst performance in taking the CAT car out of contention, I'm convinced he must have photos of John Briggs and a goat in an uncompromising position or something to be able to retain that ride for 2002.

Hey, maybe he'll prove me wrong. Good to see a young guy getting a decent steer, however I know of plenty others far more deserving that would produce the results. WW comes to mind.

Unlikely that Briggs and Wakefield would see eye to eye... Wayne had a 2-litre drive a few years ago, did one race and then lost the drive... the sponsor involved is the one now on Briggs' cars.

The whole SuperCheap Super Touring thing was a farce. Lets just say the amount of money Supercheap paid to have their name on the side of the BMW is the same as what some people have spent on a season in the Gemini series in recent times...and that is telling you something. Supercheap loved WW, but the team needed some income- therefore Wakefield is out the door (once again).

LOL @ the goat

So how many of the drivers are professionals, racing V8s is the only job they do?
