2010 Round 10 - British Grand Prix

For another year, Formula One is coming back to the place where it all started 61 years ago. After all the chaos surrounding the Donington Park deal, the British Grand Prix stays at its traditional Buckinghamshire venue. However, this time the venue for the first ever World Championship Grand Prix is a bit different.

A new circuit layout lengthens the track, making it the second fastest venue on the F1 calendar, and the fastest other than Monza. This is very much a transitional year for Silverstone, with the current pit lane and starting area set to be replaced for next year's running of the event.

It's actually half and half. They switch in to Bucks halfway through Becketts, and return in to Northants around Arena.

Actually think you'll find it's in both, straddling the border! There's a 'Welcome to Buckinghamshire, home of Silverstone Circuit' just by the roundabout at the main entrance.

Easy mistake to make-all the admin & race control is in Northants so I suppose that's why the postal address is Northamptonshire. Donington Park is the same-half in Leicestershire & half in Derbyshire!

Nice intro. I see the weather forecast seems to get better and better as time goes on! Though 'a few showers' on Sunday could be interesting if it sticks!

Silverstone is in Northants. An insignificant bit crosses the border...

I do hope no one was booked to stay there?

Good intro. I've certainly been looking forward to this one, especially with the changes that have been made and seeing how those changes are going to affect the race and the nature of Silverstone; hopefully their will be a smooth transition and a great race.

Top job on the intro, as always.

Weekend weather is looking pretty warm, especially on Friday. So I will be going to Silverstone armed with sunglasses and factor 15. And a waterproof.

Nope, they haven't touched that part of the track, except for the bikes, who get a tighter exit onto Hangar straight. At least, that was the case with FIA GT when I was there in April/May.

I think it's for race only.

I love Copse.

The direction change is fantastic to watch, whether from the shot before the corner to the left, or particularly head-on.

T'was busy indeed from ground level, I was sat at the entry to Club, fantastic area! I also was sad enough to listen to each individual exhaust note until the end when man + dog seemed to be on track.

My theory is that if RBR have a storming first half of the weekend they usually fall off the race spectacularly, if their first half is poor usually they get some race pace in massive scoops!

Is it just my personal distaste for the man,or is BE spending an inordinate amount of time around Red Bull? quick wispers in Christians ear? seemed so at the circuit today. Sudden gearbox problem previously, Webber back down the grid 5 places, to get him out of Vettels way? I think all are aware that support for Mc Laren dose not come from that quarter. After crashgate nowt in F1 would surprise me.

Interesting late news. McLaren will not be running the blown diffuser for the rest of the weekend.

I'm not surprised. It is much harder to make these things work straight of the box now there is no testing. It was pretty clear from watching practice today and looking at the times that neither driver was happy with the revised car.

As a side issue that bump at the new Abbey is a concern, because it's a very fast corner. It wasn't an issue over the MotoGP weekend, so they must take a different line, but they did have problems with bumps elsewhere.

This is just my opinion, but I don't think the new circuit is as good as the old one and the fact that there any bumps of that magnitude seems pretty inexcusable.
