Whoa.

I see this as good news though, Midland have given the impression they've given a lot of thought to all aspects of running an F1 team in the interviews the owner has given (and the people he's hired). Plus with a little extra cash Jordan could improve.

They can't make a hash of it like Red Bull have... can they?

Crickey. I am suprised Eddie would stay on. Not because he wouldn't want to (especially if his name stays in the title), but I thought a new owner would want a clean break.

What would Eddie as Commercial director be responsible for? Finding sponsorship?!

Normally my reaction would be "lets wait for official confirmation" - but having read the Autosport report in full, it does look like they've got themselves a genuine exclusive.

I think it is a positive.

And it makes sense to keep Eddie involved, and to keep his name in the team name.

Looks like good news.

I think a commercial director at that level would be the man responsible for managing the team's relationship with its sponsors rather than necessarily being the person who goes hunting for them.

With big sponsorship deals there's a lot of maintenance to be done to keep them happy - and EJ's ideal for that type of role.

I haven't read the report so all my ideas might be totally off the mark, but it's interesting that Arden had mentioned that the negotiations with Jordan had stalled lately so he choose to sign up with Red Bull... a few days later Midland hand over the money.

Looks like Eddie can play the cards close to his chest when he wants too afterall.

At first I wondered what you meant, but then I think I guessed it. It is off topic here, but it did give me an idea for a new thread.

Bit of a shock to finally have something seemingly-offical announced after the long-running list of far-fetched theories and rumours. This is a fairly positive outcome, with some well-funded and enthusiastic people coming in,a dn Eddie remaining (though perhaps in a token "hello, I'm Eddie Jordan, I'm a 'character', so give me your money" role.

Ideally, we'd've seen Midland and Jordan both on the grid in 2006. Was there ever an official link between Midland and Honda? If so, I wonder what Honda will fee about them being dumped in favour of a Toyota-linked team. Dominguez is nowhere near ready for F1, and I doubt he's even good enough.

Buying an existing team means no 48 million bond to pay, it means immediate access to TV money, travel money and seats on the technical working group etc.

It makes sense.

That make sme quite cross about the rules KB lists, and the extent to which they limit the potential for new teams to enter. I know the $48m is returned with interest over time, and for a team whose money isn't from the US it's less than usual due to the weak US economy, but it's still a disincentive to new entrants.

So, we're going to have a pseudo-Irish-Mexican-Russian-Canadian-English-German-Italian team? Neat.

Its good news but I'm gonna miss seeing Eddie Jordan on the pit wall, he's always been a character and that will be missed. I'm glad he's still going to be involved in F1 however, and I hope he's still going to be playing the drums at Silverstone!

So this means no "more" cars actually on the grids?
we're still going to have 20 cars...?

I knew it, I bloody knew it, I don't understand why I let myself get my hopes up that we might actually see a full grid...

Im actually quite angry about this.

So as it stands there are no new teams entering more cars in 2006 or beyond is there?

Team Dubai is still supposed to begin racing in 2006 as the McLaren B-team.

Team Dubai has yet to prove they exsist as anything more than a press release though.

Wow, I know Eddie J. was having some problems with his team, but I wasn't expecting him to sell it.

Wow this is good news. Hopefully they'll bring some more $$$ to the table and after a year of Toyota engines they'll move up the grid a bit.
