The backbone? They ARE the racing series. To tell the absolute truth I have not EVER liked big sponsored teams. Hate it, because they're all so PC and clinical and -censored- boring!!
Rrrg... F1 is BOUND to die. Someone needs to raise a better category and to HELL with the FIA (Which is primarily responsible for not telling Bernie to shove it when needed...) |

But each team is different and has a history, even the big sponsored teams. Every big sponsored team (with the probable exception of Ferrari) started off with just a small number of people deciding to get together and go racing. The fact that they then went out and secured big bucks sponsorship is just an additional plus point in their favour - proves they were doing something right. It's like Craig Pollock - you can knock him all you like but you can't take away that he negotiated the biggest sponsorship deal in the history of the sport and got a world champion to drive for a brand new team.

While I doubt that he would have secured JV without the relationship that exists, I agree with you. To start any team now is extremely diffucult, and to put one together with such a high budget is a noteworthy achievement.
Shame they have'nt capitalised on it as yet. |

I believe year 2000 was the first year in Jordan's history that they had their budget in place before the start of the season. Their current situation is nothing new. People just seem to be making a huge deal about it now. I'm confident Jordan will survive, and if the new car performs as good as it looks it then I'm definite they will!

People are making a huge deal about because they are scared. Jordan is not only popular, but viewed as one of the stronger privateer teams. If they can go, almost anyone can.
When we lost Prost, it was written off as poor management. TW as much as I loath him, was a very clever business man and the current state of F1 claimed his head as well. Minardi have been on shakey ground for many years, and if they are Jordan fell off the grid F1 would have problems that make the current climate look rosey. Hopefully these changes will insure the survival of great teams like Jordan and Minardi. |

Chris Balfe at Pit Pass treats the rumour as it should have been. Given the perilous financial nture of the sport and the fact the EJ is looking for a sponsor, that was a damned irresponsible rumour to post. Ahh, the ease of the intenet and copy/paste functions.
Is the rumour is false, and I think that we can assume it is, (who tests a car with a Ford Engine and a Ford bedecked transporter if they haven't got the cash to pay for said lump?) Long Live Jordan Grand Prix and the best F1 driver, Fisichella! |

With Herta in the frame for the Jordan drive, maybe Red Bull have bought a big chunk of Jordan?.That would make more sense, gives them a sponsor,a big pile of cash to shore up the financials, and satisfies Red Bulls desire to get an F1 team,as a going concern.Makes things interesting till the racing starts anyways.

Eddie is'nt selling anything.
He loves Jordan, and if he was looking at selling he would have kept Honda on board. |

Don't be surprised if EJ has a package in place and keeps us all wondering and spreading rumours until they sit on the grid in Aus. At least that way he'll ensure they have huge media coverage (this thread/forum is an example).
EJ is the PR master/magician. |

"It's also unlikely that EJ has 65% of his team to sell. Jordan agreed to sell 40% of the team to the venture capitalist company Warburg, Pincus & Co for $60m in 1998."
Ah,if he sells more than 10% he would lose control of the team. |

Nah, EJ has full control of the situation, but the remaining seat will be for a pay-driver...

EJ is quoted in Autosport thus "I hope Red Bull Jordan will become a reality"....
If it does, it looks likely Bryan Herta will get the drive to tie in with Red Bull's American angle, leaving Enrique either surplus to requirements or test driver? |

Can you imagine the number of sponsors that could be thinking:
"Well, maybe we could get our name on the side of an F1 car for cheap, this team is desperate, get in touch with them!" EJ might find that pleading poverty is bringing him quite a few smaller sponsors without him even having to look. Jordan haven't been out of the news for months, and they haven't actually done anything! |

Eddie Jordan is a loveable con man. He has probably some surprise still up his sleeve and at the car launch we will get to know what it is. He brought 7 Up into F1 when no one thought it was possible. Several drug companies offer medication to help quit smoking and with the adv ban on cigarrette brands coming up who better than Eddie to go from Benson & Hedges to Nicorete or similar product in one jump? One sugestion regarding sponsorship for him would to bring Viagra and Trojan as his sponsors. He would certainly provide "stiff" but "safe" competition.

EJ is a welcome personality in the F1, where so many snakes and ruthless types have collected. Although he has moments, such as when he canned Heinz Harald Frentzen on short notice before the German GP. Generally, he puts on a happy go lucky facade. Besides, I think his sponsering a live rock band at the Oxford Union was a riot!

ITV-F1 - Anderson said an added source of frustration was that components had got lost in transit to Barcelona.
He said: "British Airways and Easyjet lost car components on two different occasions, which cost at least one full day of testing." Easyjet?! They're toast. |

Jordan are testing with one car running in black with no sponsorship. Massa has said today he thinks a deal is now done with Jordan and hopes to sign by this weekend.
