Well then perhaps the redesign can improve the navigability because that may well be putting peeps off. Anyway you could always download my report from Mallory 70's Saloons.

we aren't planning to put in a list of every race series/championship on the off chance that we get reports though. I will put a comment on to say any reports will be given space, that's a good idea.
On downloading that report, I will do that. We don't usually download them for 2 reason: 1. copyright 2. to trawl through every web site looking for reports would take forever. I think that it isn't too much to expect people/clubs to send stuff in, IF they want to publicise themselves and get exposure. Most of the Autosport and Motorsport News news items are sent in, why not send it to theGrid as well, there is much more chance of it being published and, as I say, we get about 3,000 hits per day, which is 21,000 per week, which is about 80,000 per month, not bad eh? |

I just read the enthusiasm for the 70's section of the Top Hat series. I'd be interested in the response anyone gets from Julius (ie 'yes' or 'no') and what kind of race car you have.
I have a mid 70's Alfasud ti, the original version with fixed rear window and hinged boot lid and log book designation of saloon. It runs to a tight production spec, but Julius gave a firm no when I enquired whether he would accept it. What has he said yes to so far ? ...thanks |

veesix, you should consider running it in the HSCC 70s saloons.Whilst this class is slowly building they get to race with other 70s coupes. In 70s saloons at the moment is a capri 3000 RS2000 BMW2002 and a couple others.Would your Alfa be a 1200Ti?

The basis of the category is FIA Homologation. As such if the model was homologated in Groups 1 or 2 it qualifies.
Hence Dolomites, RX3's, Escort RS 2000, (The Group 2 1300GT) BMW's and Capris etc. Liftback Alfas also qualify. There was an ex Dealer team car out with us at Mallory. To discover if your car would fit I suggest you contact Ken Clarke at Ken Clarke Motor Sport +44 (0) 1455 615768 |

Group 2 eh Peter? Should I start looking around for that all aluminium 454 Big Block engine for the Camaro and enter a Frank Gardner look a like (only kidding honest).

Al,
If you've got a car that fits please run it. The whole point is to stick with (CSA) FISA or FIA (as they are now) regs. I kinow you'd love to run your car in a fully lightweight no-holds-barred series. But who would you race against? And "cheats" get found out no matter what the era. Frank is one of my hero's but he was never a saint. |

I was only joking Peter honest, I always wondered about the alumimium 454 anyhow as the only big block fitted by the factory was a 396ci all iron engine that weighs a ton upfront but they seemed to have sort of got around those sort of things in those days. No my small block is built and will be a modest little engine of between 400 and 450bhp, actually I have been fitting it today all to CSCC Pre 73 regs as is the rest of the car and 100% kosher, at least I hope it is. Talking about cheats from the past did you ever here about the TWR SDI's? I have heard so much about them from a 1/10 smaller perfectly scale replica bodyshell to Granada CV joints fitted internally in the axle tubes to allow the rear axle to run negetive camber.

Volvo rockers with BL stamps on them (bigger rocker ratio), and dubious engine capacities among other things...
TWR/Austin Rover lost the BTCC in the courts, but it was kept fairly quiet. If I remember rightly, it was Martin Thomas's team that inherited class (by not cheating), unless someone can correct me, and Andy Rouse won the overall in a GTV? Where is Tom Walkinshaw these days? You don't hear anything of him since Arrows went bust! Rob. |

A lot of those stories were untrue although I believe the Volvo rockers is true. The 9/10s thing was disproved at one of the ETCC events when they needed to replace the windscreen on one of the cars and bought a standard screen from a BL dealer.
Perhaps Ken Clarke can help. |

The 9/10 thing was Nascar originally and they ended up having to have machined templates the length of the car for scrutineering

Hi Al. How's the back? The 1969 ZL1 Camaro was a 'Factory Car' and did have the 427 installed (I think 67 or 68 produced). As it happens, it was the engine out of Bob Jane's 1971 Australian Touring Car Championship winning ZL1 Camaro that ended up in Frank's SCA 2nd Gen Camaro for the 1973 BSCC. Bob did go on to win the 1972 ATCC with a small block fitted to the Camaro (350 and Drum rear brakes when the Aussie rules were changed for 72 and called for 5000 identical units). Now Peter, if you can run a 2 ltr in an early Alfa, I've got the paperwork that would allow a 427 in a 69 Camaro! (Only kidding arn't we Al?) Cheers |

[Serious]Joking aside I see a bit of confusion here.
The 70's saloons run to CSA/FISA/FIA Group 1 or 2 regs. The Alfa's run to a formula developed for the challenge. It includes Group 2 lightweight cars as well as 2 litre vehicles. Also the organiser has stated that anybody who adopts a "win at all costs" attitude won't be given the opportunity to enter in the first place.[/serious] This is a great opportunity for those of us with more recent machinery to get on to a great package so I will try to promote it as much as possible. Once again though, we must not forget the CTCRC who run the baseline championships for all of these cars in the UK. |

Hi Camaroz, back is a lot better actually thank you. I knew the 427 was a option in the 1st Gen but never in the 2nd which is why I found it strange that Frank was able to race it, without getting my books out did they not have a build of about 4 or 5 of them to homologate them or something.

Talking Camaros Peter that looked a nice bit of kit at a very fair price in the Sales and Wanted on the CTCRC site. I told a mate about ir and he was well interested but too late it was gone. Bargain for someone by the look of it, if I had the spare cash I may have had it myself (shut up you old fool you already have 3).
