Well there could be several drivers - Daniel Gaunt is a Giltrap protege, Reid, Murf, and possibly Scott Dixon, who is having a pig of a season in the USA. There is nothing that says one driver has to drive all rounds.
The question isn't really who the driver is, but rather who the sponsors are? |

You'r right JDI! it's about the sponsors, and they're gouing to want, if possible a high-profile driver who will get publicity around race weekend. It would be a major coup to get Dixon for a US round, as there'll be a lot more coverage for him and the team as an IRL ex-champ. Not to mention he may know the circuit better than anyone else we may have. Ditto Murph in Aussie.
With the sponsors having to be NZ companies, that is going to make them getting value for their money very important. And possibly cause us problems with drivers like Murph and Dixon's personal sponsors. |

Yeah, I guess Colin will be keen to get his business name on there. And fair enough too.
Giltrap Toyota for Dixon, Giltrap Holden for Murph?? Any idea how much money they're likely to want to run the deal anyway? The way it's set up, it can't be a fortune - I'm guessing, salaries, personnel transport and hospitality would be the main costs. |

I don't think the seasons will conflict - depends on his IRL team releasing him.
Reid may well be the 'core' driver with occasional specialists. I think he has a cool racing driver's name. btw: just looked on a1gp.com and the nz franchise is not mentioned!! wtf? |

Calm down, Jester! You need to confirm your franchise first. NZ isn't the only one not confirmed

and what about the websites? I see that a1gp.co.nz and a1grandprix.co.nz is registered to A1GP (no site up yet though), but the two Australian sites are registered to private owners!
Would love to be in their shoes! Imagine the deal they could negotiate?! "Yes, I'll have box seats at every A1GP event for the next three years" (especially with the Aus date already announced) A1GP in NZ is going to be incredible. Colin got that franchise for a steal, but at least we know it wont run out of money before it gets off the ground. |

I heard on the Radio that Jonny Reid and Matt Halliday had been confirmed as the New Zealand drivers.
I have not been able to find a link to back this up as yet. |

Whats wrong with Fabian Coulthard? Isn't he talented enough? He has the runs on the board in Carrera Cup here in Aus this season and he came from single seaters didn't he.

The car only has one seat you can't have 4 guys driving it at once, shows the depth of Kiwi open wheel drivers at the moment. And our cricket teams looking pretty handy at the moment too!.

No disrespect to Matt H, but I think credit should also go to Team Kiwi engineers, who got on top of their car quickly. Great job. Dont expect too much from Scott Dixon: (a) didnt impress in williams test last year (b) hasnt turned right for two years!

we have a cricket team? since coulthard's name was brought because of his carrera cup results over the ditch (i didn't know the series was such a big deal???) why not add fanga dan from d1nz to the list of drivers. just think of the marketing potential you'd have with a driver named "fanga" |

I think Greg Murphy would have the wood on Wills, looks like the NZ team should have entered a bus as we so many good drivers requiring a seat, and we could always dust off Chris Amon.

The guys at West Surrey Racing did a great job on the car. Lets hope we see them back in British F3 next season. How good would it be to see Dan Whelden, Tony Kanaan, NP Jnr, T Enge and Scott racing on a good drivers circuit like Leguna Seca...... The bigger the names in A1 the better the series will get. |

I asked about Coulthard because I thought that any young Kiwi who can beat Jim Richards in a Porsche on more than one occasion and also had a single seater background must have had some talent. I am sorry I was so seriously mistaken. Just shows what a mistake it was for WPS to sponsor this lack of a big deal and have one of their drivers who just happens to be a kiwi as well, get beaten by a number of drivers who dont get regular drives in the V8s. Oh well now that I have been enlightened I wont bother watching the Carreras any more and I must let Jim know that the series is no big deal back home when I catch up with him at Indy. I must tell my boss that we should pull the sponsorship off Jims car too because the series is no big deal. Your a Klown with a Kapital K pal. |
