From Indy Star - Another Bias??
http://ap.indystar.com/dynamic/stori...SECTION=SPORTS[/URL]
This is the first time I have tried to insert a site to this discussion - as you can see I am still a Rookie. I hope that when I submit this - it will be a link, if not please someone help me. The following from the article appears biased to me. Is this reporter on TG's payroll? Quote:

Sadly with Ganassi, Penske, Green being there I think that's probably true (assuming they mean open wheel racing in the USA and not world wide).
I wouldn't call it bias. However CCWS has a great opportunity to have a storming season and redress the balance |

Hello, racinthestreets,
Regardless of my well-known opinion about Tony George's creation, I have to concede that the statement you extracted from the text is in general terms correct ("IRL, which now has most of the top teams and drivers in open-wheel racing, begins its ninth season Feb. 29 in Florida at Homestead-Miami Speedway."). This is the situation today - and, as Kicking-back wrote above, hopefully it will be reverted. The Indianapolis Star - that offers the best newspaper coverage of motorsports in the United States - is not on "TG's payroll". Quite the opposite: its journalists have got into arguments with Tony George and his partners a few times in the past (and as recently as the last race of 2003 season, because of the Star investigation - and opinion - about Kenny Bräck's crash in the Texas Motor Speedway). Regards, Muzza |

That article is an Associated Press article, not penned by the Star.

A newspaper cannot (at least if the most basic principles of journalism are respected, what regrettably is not always the case...) make a disclaimer such as "articles written by news agencies and published by this paper do not express the views of the latter". |

It was printed in hundreds of papers around the planet, not everyone agrees with what is printed. In fact, to be a pure journalist would compel one to print news that one does not "agree" with.

It's sort of a general press type of statement neglecting the details or understanding. Because of that I wouldn't say it's biased, but while the teams comment is true, it is a stretch to say all the best drivers are in the IRL.

Snrub, the text printed by the Star says "most of the top teams and drivers", not "all".
I agree this term, "most"; I would have not if the text had used "all". |

Top Team IRL 2004: AG Racing, Ganassi, Penske, Mo Nunn (Has he won any championships?) 1/2 Rahal, who am I missing here? Patrick??? Top Team CCWS 2004: Newman/Hass, Forsythe, Rahal (Could be Two Cars), Fernandez, Herdez these last two maybe not considered a "top team" they have solid sponsorship - and I think we can add Rocketsports to this group, good team, good driver, solid sponsorship. I question the "most" being in the IRL. |

I question the point of caring what they think!
I guess it's up to Champ Cars to prove them wrong in 2004.....so this time next year it can be argued with more emphasis on the Champ Car teams! |

I've stated this in many threads on this Forum, and in general, I'd have to back up what Muzza said concerning the Indianapolis Star...
Both Steve Ballard and Curt Cavin are straight-up, objective journalists who have no problem sticking it to the offending parties in BOTH series when it comes to "telling it like it is..." in the world of open-wheel racing... Both have published their share of criticism of the IRL over the years....and neither one is a "mouthpiece" or a "puppet" for TG or the IRL... |

This is really nothing but a non-issue and it's been discussed ad nauseum.
Thread closed. |
