All the links I posted previously work for me.
The meeting is over now. Here's a report on Race 1, which was a maiden win for Hitech's Pietro Fantin after Felipe Nasr was given a controversial drive-through for using parts of the circuit that were not intended to be used. Several others had similar problems, particularly William Buller, who was given a 60 second penalty because he didn't perform the drive through during the race. This was conspicuously stupid, because his amended race time put him in theory a lap behind. If the stewards had given him a 50 second penalty instead the result would been exactly the same, but the race time would have made sense. Results: Code:
Pos Driver Team Car Time/Gap 1. Pietro Fantin Hitech Dallara-VW 30m37.904s 2. Rupert Svendsen-Cook Carlin Dallara-VW + 1.219s 3. Jack Harvey Carlin Dallara-VW + 2.412s 4. Race 2 on Sunday morning was much better. This is the one with a partly reversed grid. Scott Pye found himself on pole and did very well to convert it into his own maiden F3 race win despite difficult wet conditions.. He did particularly well to hold off champion elect Felipe Nasr. Kevin Magnussen was in the mix, too, until a mistake dropped him back, but he fought his way onto the podium with an enterprising move on the last, but the stewards thought it was just a little too good and added 3 seconds to his race time to put him back to 5th.
Here is the report and the results: Code:
Pos Driver Team/Car Time/Gap 1. Scott Pye Double R Dallara-Merc 20m19.368s 2. Felipe Nasr Carlin Dallara-VW + 10.217s 3. William Buller Fortec Dallara-Merc + 14.592s 4. Pipo Derani Double R Dallara-Merc + 18.406s 9. Hywel Lloyd Sino Vision Dallara-Merc + 20.220s 10. Rupert Svendsen-Cook Carlin Dallara-VW + 23.827s 11. Race 3 on Sunday afternoon was the feature race and the track was still wet. Kevin Magnussen made a great start for a change from 3rd on the grid to take the lead. Felipe Nasr also jumped pole man Pietro Fantin, but made a small error, which dropped him back to 3rd, but that was enough to secure the 2011 title for delighted young Brazilian.
Kevin held off Fantin to the end despite great pressure on a treacherous track and it was good that he should get another win. Smiles all round, in fact. He is now 2nd in the points standings, but by only 3 points from William Buller, who has come on strongly of late. Report and results: Code:
Pos Driver Team/Car Time/Gap 1. Kevin Magnussen Carlin Dallara-VW 40m10.018s 2. Pietro Fantin Hitech Dallara-VW + 0.691s 3. Felipe Nasr Carlin Dallara-VW + 4.579s 4. William Buller Fortec Dallara-Merc + 8.721s 5. Jazeman Jaafar Carlin Dallara-VW + 9.271s 6. Jack Harvey Carlin Dallara-VW + 15.077s 7. Scott Pye Double R Dallara-Merc + 17.325s 8. Good pictures! #58 makes me smile because Kevin Magnussen, who won the race, looks the least happy. I guess he is thinking of what might have been. He said after the race that he is unlikely to be racing in BF3 next year. It's easy to forget that he did a mixture of German F3 and F3ES last year, so that's two years.

Awesome effort by Scott Pye to get his debut win - would you say he has been disappointing this year or is this about what you would expect in BF3 from the reigning Formula Ford champ in his rookie year?

Yeah it's great to see Scott get his first win, to bad no kiwis are in the series this year.

Last year he was with the best team (Jamun) and this year he's not, and so he has to beat the Carlin boys. It must be frustrating when you are used to winning regularly. It was a great win from pole in the wet though and I imagine this has rescued his season. Having had this learning year I would expect his management to move him to GP3 for 2012 where the car performance differentials between teams are far less and the relative skill of the drivers is easier to judge. |

British F3 is wrong in every way possible for progressing to GP3, so I doubt it.

Small correction. F3, be it British or elsewhere else is essential for progressing to GP3 because you need to have learnt all the things F3 teaches you before going to GP3, which is a control formula and doesn't teach a driver much at all, but has the benefit of great exposure through running with F1.

The natural progression would be a title challenging year 2 in BF3, to capitalise on all he's learnt, not waste it all by going to GP3 Lawnmower lottery surely?

The combination of the tracks used, climate, style of tyres and engine characteristics are all wrong for going onto GP3 from British F3. |

You'll have to explain that, please. It's a sweeping generalisation without any facts to support it.
