Thanks, James; that's probably tipped me into going (as a spectator), even though last year I said that I'd never go again; cold and very wet barely describes it so let's hope for better this year. Also let's hope for a good grid for the Tony Rolt Trophy.

The Keith Duckworth Trophy and The Tony Rolt Trophy At The WHT

This race doesn't seem to have gained much publicity yet....

The Keith Duckworth Trophy will take place at the BRDC Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone on Sunday 5th November 2006.

This race is for DFV-powered F1 cars of the 1960s-1970s and 1980s.

Entry Fee is just £120.

Entry Forms are now available from: James.Beckett@brdc.co.uk

or they can be downloaded from the BRDC site: www.brdc.co.uk

The sound of the DFV at the WHT will make for a complete weekend for so many people. If you are the owner of a DFV-powered F1 car, the BRDC would love to see you on-track at Silverstone.

Anyone know where entry lists can be viewed for either of these races? Can't find any on the BRDC site. I'd like to go and spectate but it's hard to imagine too many cars turning up in November.

Haven't seen an entry list yet. As soon as I get something, I'll put it up on here, unless JEB beats me to it. He will, no doubt, know before I do

slightly OT, but only slightly: it was nice to meet up with John Turner & his son at Silverstone today. I had a nice quiet race in my FFord, I didn't realise until afterwards, that I think we were the oldest car at the meeting. Perhaps John could confirm??

Great to meet you, too, Gary. I'll check it out for you, but can you give me a couple of days as I'm back there tomorrow. I'll also probably rename this thread the Walter Hayes Trophy meeting .... for obvious reasons!

Now that I have finished (subject to requests!) on the Holly Birkett thread, I'll start putting a few pics. up on this thread which, as promised, I have renamed. Not quite sure how I'll deal with this given the huge mix of the cars ages both in the WHT and the support races but could be interesting. It'll not be too structured with all the various eliminators and qualifyers leading up to the final; the whole weekend was a blur of FF1600 cars, and 'no' I couldn't really keep up with a 150 of them but plenty were historic, so let's see how it goes!

First, however, just a short note to acknowledge the tragedy that took place on Sunday when Superkarter, Richard Weavers, lost his life in an accident at Brooklands. This matter is not for discussion here, and in such circumstances words are cheap, but as a small gesture on our part, let us dedicate this thread to his memory. RIP, Richard.

John,

Did the race for DFV powered F1 cars take place Sunday? I was marshalling Friday and an 80s era Tyrrell was given a 3 lap shakedown at lunchtime. It was all a bit confusing as to why. Maybe it was entered in the Secretary's Challenge? Perhaps you can shed some light on this.

No, only 2 cars were entered and turned up for the Keith Duckworth Trophy, so there wasn't a lot of point. Simon Hadfield, whose team prepared Frank Sytner's Penske PC3/02 (the 'other' entrant to turn up) expressed his disappointment that we couldn't acknowledge Duckworth's achievements with a good turn out but did point out that many of the eligible cars would be TGP cars which were being prepared for, if not already on their way to Valencia for the final TGP round. The Tyrrell 012 was that of Geoff Farmer who did some demonstration laps later on in the day just before the WHT final.

I agree with Simon about this issue and hope that such a race can be held in the not too distant future. It's a great idea but, on this occasion was probably found wanting in the 'timing' department!

Pit & Paddock

I didn't go on Friday (it was a very long weekend for some) so missed out on the Uk Formula Ford race and the Friday Shoot Out, but early Saturday morning saw my usual first visit to pit and paddock! By coincidence, the first picture I took was competitor no.1 for the first race of the day! The Mallock Mk20B of Mark Charteris, soon to be heading out for the first 8 Clubs Revival Race - Group 1. I have to say that my knowledge of Mallocks is more than usually negligible, so I have no idea what year this car was built in. I'm sure the Mallocks would make a long, fascinating and complex archive thread!:

Good to see the old and the new rubbing shoulders. The Lotus Cortina of Michael Steele, Nigel Vaulkhard's 2-litre engined Mk1 Escort and the Seat of Harry Vaulkhard, all three bound for the 8 Clubs Revival Race - Group 2:

A real bit of history here. The 1962 Le Mans TVR Grantura of Daniel Nash, also destined for the same race as the above 3 cars!:-

I hope that you can read this as it was taken through the glass, but I'll tell you anyway! The steering wheel boss says:-

TVR Grantura MK3
YFR 751
Le Mans 24 hours June 1962
Goodwood TT August 1962
Driver - Peter Bolton.

Why only Bolton for Le Mans? Well Sanderson who was to share the car, didn't get to drive it, since it overheated after only 3 laps and retired! However, as many of you will know they teamed up again the following year to take the then new AC Cobra (hard top) Coupe to a fine 7th overall!

Gary Critcher's pipes are a work of art! I mean that of his Nike Mk4/6 are!:-

8 Clubs Revival Race - Group 1 (part 1)

A race of 'Allsorts', 3 photos will probably cover most of the 'Historic' content. The Radical SR8 of Steve Jones ran out the winner and indeed he shouldn't, barring mishap, have finished anywhere else. However, he was chased home by Michael Mallock in the family Mk11B, who actually led at the end of the first lap and finished about 6 seconds down. This maybe an old Mallock, but it has obviously been well developed, is beautifully prepared, and is a seriously quick car in Michael's hands (his best lap of the Club Circuit- a 58.454!). Some years ago, I saw him waltz away into the distance at a very wet Thruxton beating many much later Mallocks and similar cars, in this same car. Why he has not achieved more in motor racing must be down to a lack of funds/sponsorship/time because it surely is not a lack of ability! :-

How long have we been watching Dave Brodie Race? Well over 30 years (Remember 'Run Baby Run'?). He's been out several times this year in his Ford Sapphire Cosworth and here he was classified 20th, but finished in the pitlane, since he had been circulating several places higher. An indicator of that, is Mark Charteris in his Mallock Mk20B who finished 14th.:-

The oldest car in the race was probably the Camaro of Chas Mallard which finished 16th. He stayed just ahead of the Escort RS Cosworth of Paul Nevill. I think that the car almost completely hidden, is the Mallock Mk 30 EBX of Clibe Fidgeon who finished 17th. The results sheets suggest that they continued to spend the rest of the race this close!:-

8 Clubs Revival Race - Group 2 (part 1)

Another real mix this, but with a greater historic car content! Great dice for the lead between Dom Evans BMW E36 M3, who had grabbing brakes, and an inspired Harry Vaulkhard in the SEAT Leon Cupra R which the BMW driver just won. However, neither come into the category of historic yet, so here is our Le Mans TVR Grantura which came in 18th driven by either Nash or Martin(?). I can't help feeling that the front end needs to be lowered and stiffened a bit! Phil Linfield's Metro came 22nd, whilst Thomas Halliwell in Peugeot 106 Xsi passed him for 21st:

Roz Shaw finished 23rd in the Alfa Guilia Sprint:-

The sun, already low, glints off the Camaro of Richard Mallinson who recovered from what I assume was a poor start, to finish 6th:-

David Edwards came 8th in a later model Camaro:-

This Cobra was of course the famous Jack Sears '39PH' painted in Willment colours for 1964, from the BRG that Bolton/Sanderson had it in for '63. Now owned by Nigel Corner who bought it from Jon Minshaw this year, having previously been in long term ownership by Nigel Hulme.

The Haggis Memorial Trophy

A race for Clubman A, Clubman B and Sports 1600c cars. As I've said before, I haven't a clue what the ages of these cars are but I'll show a few pics anywayl

The Gryphon C73/75 of Gavin Childs leads early on, with the Doris CKM (yes, really!) of Anthony Denham and the already seen Mallock Mk11B, this time driven by Ray:-

Once passed the Doris, Ray Mallock latched onto the Gryphon, and there followed a great display of close racing for the lead. Despite his best attempts Mallock had to give second best to Childs who won by 3 tenths:-

The Mallock Mk21 of Chris Burnham and the Phantom P94 of Philip Allen. They had swapped places by the end and finished 12th & 13th:-

WHT Qualifiers

At last we get to the raison d'etre of the meeting, the Formula Fords. Many chassis were in evidence, some 40 years old in design, others current, but all were fitted with the Kent engine. I'm not going to provide pictures for each qualifying race but just put a few shots together and identify the cars and drivers.

The first shows a trio of Van Diemens; Rebecca Dean in her RF86 leading Chris Stones, RF85, and Peter Lavender, RF79:-

The newly crowned Historic FF Champion, Nelson Rowe in his Crossle 20F:-

George Fowler's Macon MR8:-

Rob Barff in Mondiale M885:-
