They probably will do this. But the trouble with doing this is that Vergne already has the excuse that he is almost a year behind Ricciardo in terms of experience; because obviously Daniel did the full campaign in 2010 which would give him the experience over Vergne who only did a partial campaign. So the direct comparison may still be hard to see. Then again, Hartley had the upper hand going into this year in terms of experience over Ricciardo in 3.5, and look what happened!

Will Ricciardo miss any races with his F1 duties?

Surely not. I imagine whenever there is a clash Red Bull would rather he carried on trying to win the championship than do some friday running in a Toro Rosso. It's good experience but I get the feeling that if Ricciardo can clinch the title next year he will be guaranteed a place in F1 for 2012.

A few people in this thread seem to really rate Guerrieri, I'm not sure how long he's been in WSR tbh, but it looks like he's moving on:

A little bit of FR3.5 related news today - It appears that both Mirko Bortolotti and Daniel Zampieri have lost their places on the Ferrari Driver Development program for 2011:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/88703 They both tested extensively during the post-season tests in Barcelona and Motorland Aragon and were known to be planning to enter the series next year, with both being linked to the new BVM-Target team. Remains to be seen I suppose if they can raise the funds to compete next year? |

a shame for zampieri, but i guess when you have ricciardo nearly winning the championship and verge making a big impression it makes it difficult for any other first year drivers to defend themselves, even if they weren't able to access the same resources the red bull guys do.
to what extent does this ferrari driver development scheme control and develop their drivers? |

Both drivers have showed their ability at least but I wonder if the sigining of Perez and (can't remember the other guys names) has meant that FDA are more interested in drivers at the end of their junior careers that already have a bit of a name (and significant commercial links) than those who are still a bit unproven? |

It is a shame about both Bortolloti and Zampieri. I guess they just didn't do a good enough job this year. A WSR budget is fairly substantial these days and Ferrari may as well choose one person who is an exceptional driver, eg. Perez, than spend 1.5m putting two solid, drivers through a year of WSR.

Might they look at how deep pockets young drivers have. Lance Stroll is somebody none of have surely not heard before he's been signed by FDA. They went for Bianchi who's managed by Todt, went for Perez... Would like to know what they're contribution into financing their drivers is? Have a strange feeling they only give their brand, not backing drivers financially enough.

Ferrari has never, and will never, be interested in signing rookies to drive their cars.

It says on Estonian news that Kevin Korjus has signed up with Gravity and will be racing for Tech 1 next year. There is a possibility of participating in an F3 series in parallel.

Silly move if this is true, way too soon for him to be racing in an F1 feeder series. Hope he doesn't do too bad and ruin his reputation as I really rate this kid.

i think the fact he has a big wedge of cash towards his fr3.5 budget thanks to winning the eurocup means it's a bit of a no-brainer....

Is Eurocup to 3.5 the logical step, or is he missing something out? I don't mean like F3, I mean something on the Renault racing ladder.

you're not missing anything, there's nothing in between as far as renault are concerned. they do the tests for the f3 series winners at the end of the year, so they're not exclusively looking at fr2.0 for their graduates, but they do try and keep them in the renault ladder by offering the winner of the eurocup a big wedge of cash towards a budget for the following season in fr3.5.

i can't decide if the fields going to be full of competitors who think they can run before they can walk, or potentially a classic year with loads of surprises...

I think that Korjus or Pic are better than driver like Berthon . The first taste of FR3.5 for Pic and Korjus were pretty good. At the end of Barcelona tests Arthur finished only 1 tenth off Berthon and Korjus at Motorland finished only 5 tenths off Vergne. There will be also 6 hours private test. |
