The bloke across the road from me works for Merc and said it is on for three days, and the DTM story is still happening as of last Wednesday.

MB had a similar event here in Melbourne the other week. Was put together on the quiet. I was told Peter Hackett had something to do with as he was seen by my source, escorting MB personnel associated with the event around a track the weekend before.

DTM at Bathurst in the dry 1min 58sec.
Based on 1987 VL Commodore qual at Spa 2m42.53sec (dry??) 2005 DTM MB practice Spa 2m13.65sec (dry) Difference factor 82.2% Same spec 1987 VL Commodore qual Bathurst 2m23.6sec (dry) 2005 DTM MB (Commodore x 0.822) Bathrust 1m58sec (thereabout) Assumptions: 1987 WTC Qual at Spa was dry. This is not scientific, merely a reference point. |

Spa was modified twice between 1987 and 2005 it must be remembered, firstly in 2002 they opened up the second part of the bus stop, and in 2004 they completely changed the first part of it.

Schneider reckoned a DTM car would run the Mountain in a time between 1:50.00 and 2:00.00. There were a number of Australian race drivers there. Jack Perkins, Warren Luff, Paul Stokell, Jamie Whincup and Will Davison. Whincup and Davison did not get in the AMG C63s there for the launch because of contractural obligations. The others all sat in the passenger seats while AMG owners, Mercedes dealers and journos hot-lapped.
Then Schneider gave hot laps for anyone brave enough to get in one of the AMG cars with him. |
