Life Insurance!

I have recently taken out some life insurance and one of the questions I was asked was whether I participated in any dangerous sports! And motor racing is indeed one of them.

This morning I got a letter and form asking for more details. Licence type, car details (including size of engine), race type, which circuits I raced on, etc...

Has anyone experienced anything like this. And what difference will this make to my premium?

I was doing very well up to that point, I don't smoke , no dodgey past etc. Although my beer consumption could perhaps be lower!

Yeah that is normal, the question that they seemed to pay the most attention to was how fast did I go!

My life insurance policy simply voids my cover if I'm hurt or killed while racing, if anything happens while I'm not racing, fine all is well.

You need to ask your Life Insurance people.. When I took cover out, both the bank and a broker knew my hobby (the only an intended one, but I've now started).. Some Life Insurance companies are more motorsport sympathetic than others - if in doubt clarify it - otherwise you might not have the cover you think you do and at the end of the day it's not for your benefit....

If the life underwriter was not aware of your intended new hobby, ie. did you disclose it on the application form, then you will not be covered. technically this means not covered AT ALL not just in motor sport events...

I had a simple questionnaire from Legal & General when I ticked the dangerous hobbies box. After a bit of a wait they finally insured me - and bizarrely enough the premium was lower than orginally quoted! go figure!.
