This Alfa

Picture taken at VSCC meeting, Silverstone, early last year.

What model is it and what particular result is it best known for?

David McKinney should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
OTTOMH (I'm at work at the moment) it's a 6C-2300 circa 1938 - I think ex-Biondetti from that year's Pescara race

Second attempt
My records (now accessed) show it was indeed a 6C-2300, but 1937 rather than 1938, and driven by Cortese, not Biondetti, in the Mille Miglia in both those years

Pretty much there first time, David. I must admit that I cheated, since before I posted, I rather cheekily asked Simon Moore. He told me that this is indeed a 6C2300B; it carries chassis number 815001 and was run by Franco Cortese in 1938 with Touring body (now a replica body). In Cortese's hands (with Fumageli) it won its class in 1938 Mille Miglia and finished that race 9th overall. It also competed in various Italian races and hillclimbs that year. I didn't know that Cortese had run it the year before in the MM; I'm assuming he didn't finish because he does not appear in any results that I have. Do you have any further info?

What a car to turn up to a meeting in. Wonderful!

I've got Cortese 6th in the 1937 Mille Miglia, sharing with Angelo Guatta. Heaven only knows what the source was though, I must confess. The car was numbered 112 in the race.

You're right, Tim; I missed that one completely. It's confirmed in Mike Lawrence's book. We are sure it's the same car both years, are we?

Maybe we'll have to wait until Simon Moore writes a book on the 6Cs!

Fantastic looking piece of kit though.

A bit more delving reveals that Cortese's 1937 Mille Miglia car was described at the time as being "an old model with leaf springs". He raced two other 6C-2300s (at least) that year. His '37 MM car was driven in the '38 race by Heller and Castelbarco.
Cortese's car for the the 1938 MM was specially built by Ing Jano, and is presumably the one in the picture, and also the one with which Cortese won his class in six of the seven Italian Championship rounds of the year

I've no knowledge of who the owner is, so could well be. He certainly races a few nice machines!
