Ford pulling out of WRC?

According to ESPN.com, Ford has released Francois Duval from his contract for 2005 because of uncertainty about the team's future commitment to the championship.

Doesn't sound like Ford is planning on staying there. Unfortunate.

Certainly is a big mistake letting Duval off the lead, but maybe its all tactical. Perhaps wilson jnr. will take the spot??

MSport as far as i know are still waiting for the Super 1600 Development contract.

Both Ford drivers could end up on French teams, Märtin to Peugeot and Duval to Citroën.

With Ford pulling out of F1 what are the chances of them being in the WRC next year? Motorsport news suggested they may run the European rounds only, but in the light of the F1 withdrawal do you think they'll quit the WRC too? It certainly doesn't look good does it?

They should commit fully to WRC now. Better to making one concerted effort rather than two half efforts.

I've been saying for years, that rather than throwing their money away on the cat that runs like a dog, they should focus (excuse the pun) on the WRC instead.

Hope they don't pull the plug on the WRC, now they are quiting F1.

Question - how significant is Cosworth (also for sale) to the Focus WRC engine program?

It would be much cheaper to compete in WRC, BTCC/ETCC and Le Mans then in the overrated F1 circus.

According to François Duval Malcom Wilson was smiling during the Rally GB, so things could be going the right way for Ford.

Apart from a smiling Wilson Duval also mentioned he could stay at Ford even if they do a limited number of rallies.

Ford does pull the plug on Grand Prix racing.

Focussing on rally and/or touring cars would be more ideal for them as those are (similar to) the cars that you and I run on the street.

A customer can't identify his own car with an F1 car, but can with a WRC or ETCC Focus.

Apparently Ford are to announce their entry into the 2005 WTCC championship at this weeks Paris motor show - according to Eurosport commentators.

Would certainly be cheaper than the WRC. But perhaps not as much exposure or would they be competitive.
