Caltex Racing has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
McLaren: De La Rosa Can Be Teammate To Fernando Alonso

McLaren see Spanish stand-in Pedro de la Rosa as a benchmark in their search for a second driver for 2007.

The 35-year-old test driver has replaced Juan Pablo Montoya at the French Grand Prix after the Colombian's shock announcement last weekend that he was leaving Formula One for the US NASCAR stock car series.

Having not heard of the site with this report, I have to take this with a pinch of salt. All the same, Pedro has done nothing wrong so far, with a solid drive in France, and an unlucky weekend in Germany. The problem is that he's probably as good as he can ever be now, whereas Lewis will improve over time, and Gary probably can as well. The decision might come down to whether McLaren feel that they can be competitive for wins in 2007 - an experienced #2 would help if they can, but otherwise they are better to plan ahead for 2008.

Mission should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The speculation concerning the partner for Alonso is likely to go on for some time, with some suggesting that Mark Webber could now be in the frame as he is out of contract. There is an interesting comment on the noticias.info website which suggests that Pedro De La Rosa and Lewis Hamilton could share the role; with Lewis's racing being limited to the European tracks on which he can test.

Given that this appears to be based on an article from the Jurassic Period and we have other threads on de la Rosa and other potential suitors to the second McLaren seat, I shall bring this one to a close....
