They will call it NASCARVISION!

I think this means that either ABC broadcasts F1 next season, or we don't get it at all, short of Bernievision by satellite maybe. Will Bernie let his prised possession air on the NASCAR Channel? Stay tuned.

botsquad has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
i doubt that abc will pickup f1...

speedvision will more then likely still get the f1 rights.

but....the future of f1 on us tv will be a pay-per view package..

I just sent Speedvision an e-mail asking that they consider retaining and expanding openwheel and roadracing motorsports. Maybe others should send notes too.

I sent it to programming@speedvision.com

I have sent one, Neil, but I don't think it will help.

At least, living in Canada, we can watch F1 on TSN, but I have come to prefer Speedvisions coverage.

I can't imagine stock cars 24 hrs. a day, but coverage of a lot of racing series' are going to be sacrificed for this. It's really too bad. Fox probably feels that open wheel fans can get their fix on Motorsport Mundial, for a 1/2 an hour a week.

fox is not likely to move 'cup' neckcar off of their non-cable channels.
the ratings would take too big a hit..

speedvision will probably show the minor league stuff:

What I find disturbing reading the lines about this is that the direction will now surely be towards the "majority" interest-ie the oval stuff, with the individuals calling the programing shots dumping "weird foreign stuff" that "our viewers" will never watch.

As I have mentioned before, SV is not available where I live, and so I only see selected tapes lent from a friend, but I have always been very impressed by the range of motorsport coverage, whether it be crazy truckers hurling a racing rig around Donnington or the top level GP bike races (whick I follow as religiously as F1 and CART-albeit always a few races behind the schedule)

ditto on the oh caca comment. A letter is in the works.

Two tiny crumbs of comfort to be gleaned from that news story as far as I can see.

1. Fox owns Speedvision.
2. NASCAR Images are involved.

This means that maybe (1) Rupert Murdoch's Sky empire might just be persuaded to open up one of their digital feeds to start a European Speedvision service, so us lot over here can see it. And (2), NASCAR Images holds the archive footage, so just maybe there will be some worthwhile programming of the old days when the cars were real cars. 1970 Daytona 500 anyone? Dodge Chargers and Plymouth Superbirds lapping at 210mph....

But if the channel is going to be all stock-cars, then I agree that it will be very poor fare indeed. And the bit about the lifestyle and backroom coverage is something that chills me totally. There is precious little of interest in a "Homes of the Rich and Famous" at the best of times, and it won't be improved any if the home just happens to be that of Terry Labonte. There are only so many time you can watch "exclusive" tours of Childress Racing's shop before it becomes old.

SV was a great station for motorheads.NASCAR is the WWF of racing. It's pathetic.

SV now has info-mericals at prime time.
It's going down hill fast.

How many trailer parks have cable anyway ??

I think you might be surprised to see NASCAR will be on Speedvision. Fox has been on a campaign to have their satellite networks moved into mainstream cable TV in America. They have run NASCAR races on FX, their syndicated network and now it is available pretty much across America, and they have been airing Major League Baseball playoff games on Fox Family in a bid to do the same. If they get their way, Speedvision will move to easily available basic cable television.
