Vauxhall Astra Coupe

I have been looking at the history of the current crop of BTCC cars and I have been looking into the Vauxhall Astra Coupes, this is what I have found:-

001 - Was used by Egg Sport in 2001/02. The car was then sold to GA Motorsport who used it in 2003/04. They still have the car.

002 - The car was used again by Egg Sport in 2001/02. The car then transfered to Opel Team Sweden, who from what I can work out still have the car.

003 - The car was used by Yvan Muller in 2001/02, it was then sold to GA Motorsport who still have the car.

004 - The car was used in the opening round of the 2001 championship by Jason Plato, before changed into a 2 seater of 2002/03. In 2004 the car re-appeared in the BTCC and was used by Micheal Bentwood, then in 2005 the car then re-appered at the final meeting of the year and was used by Andy Neate.

005 - The car was used by Vauxhall in 2001/02 and 03. The car was then passed on to Opel Team Sweden who have used it since then.

006 - The car was built as a spare for the 2001 season. In 2002 it was used by Barwell Motorsport, the car then repear in 2003 from Snetterton onwards and was driven by Gareth Howell and run by Team Dymanics. The car was then sold to Tom Chilton's dad who still owns the car.

007 - The car was built for the 2002 season and was used by Barwell Motorsport. It then transfered to Rob Collard who used in 2003/04. For 2005 the car passed to Mark Proctor, I understand that the car has found a new home in Sweden.

008 - The car was built as a spare for the 2002 season. It was then used by Yvan Muller in 2003/04. In 2005 car was then used by Opel Performance Turkey.

009 - The car was used by VX Racing in 2003/04. Since the Croft meeting in July 2005 the car has been run by Techspeed for Fiona Leggate.

010 - The car was built as a spare for the 2003 season and was then used by James Thompson in 2004, until it was written off at Knockhill.

011 - The car was built to replace 010 from a spare shell. James Thompson used the car for the final few rounds of the 2004 season.

See you have picked up the thread from another forum where I was researching this. Please see this page for a full list of all the BTC-T Astra Coupes and Sport Hatches.

Sorry Allen
The list was put together from various sources - usually speaking to drivers, mechanics, etc - and verified recently by Triple Eight.

It is my intention to do something with that site and had been working on a chassis history of all BTC-T, BTC-P and Super 2000 spec cars until work intervened. I will likely revist the idea in the winter when it quietens down again.

Craig

My comment was actually aimed at rdjones for quoting your material without crediting you.

It's great to see someone doing original research on today's equivalent of the libre cars, Atlantics and F5000s of the 1970s. What a shame that single-seater racing is now dominated by the big factory constructors.

Two of these cars (one ex GA and one ex VXR) went to Encke Sport, but I believe one has been sold on again.

I've got some more information about some of the cars. Most of it comes from the drivers/owners/teams themselves.

#001 (2001)
2001: Egg Sport - Phil Bennett & Andy Priaulx
2002: Egg Sport - Matt Neal
2003: GA Motorsport - Gavin Pyper & Carl Breeze
2004: GA Motorsport/Team Sureterm - Paul Wallace & Stefan Hodgetts (Did they run this one or #003? If Encke is correct they were in #003. Craig?)
2005: GA Motorsport - Not run
2006: Quest Racing - Not run (Quest = GA Motorsport renamed)
2007: Encke Sport - Not run
2008: Encke Sport - Car is for sale (same car as the one advertised above)

#002 (2001)
2001: Egg Sport - James Thompson
2002: Egg Sport - Paul O'Neill
2003: Opel Team Sweden - Tommy Rustad (STCC)
2004: Opel Team Sweden - Not run
2005: Opel Team Sweden - Not run
2006: Opel Team Sweden - Not run
2007: Team Euromaster - Joakim Frid (STCC) (Car rented from OTS)
2008: Opel Team Sweden - For sale or hire?

#005 (2001)
2001: Vauxhall Motorsport - Jason Plato (Rounds 3/4 and onwards)
2002: Vauxhall Motorsport - James Thompson
2003: VX Racing - James Thompson
2004: Opel Team Sweden - Tommy Rustad (STCC)
2005: Opel Team Sweden - Tommy Rustad (STCC)
2006: Opel Team Sweden - Not run
2007: Opel Team Sweden - Not run
2008: Opel Team Sweden - For sale or hire? - Have possibly become a two-seater

#006 (2001)
2001: Vauxhall Motorsport - Spare car
2002: Barwell Motorsport - Tom Chilton
2003: Team Dynamics - Gareth Howell
2004: Tom Chilton - Not run
2005: Tom Chilton - Not run
2006: Tom Chilton - Not run
2007: Tom Chilton - Not run
2008: Tomax Motorsport (basically the Chilton family I suppose; I don't know exactly when this name was introduced) - Car is for sale

Unconfirmed:
#003 - Previously owned by GA/Quest. Encke was supposed to buy two cars, presumably this and #001, but did they take delivery of #003? Is it still with Quest?

#004 - Most likely still with Daniels Motorsport, their website still lists it and I haven't seen anything about them selling it

#007 - Mark Proctor's new car is now supposedly with Opel Team Sweden and up for sale/hire, but I haven't been able to confirm this.

#008 - This was Erkut Kizilirmak's car than ran in Turkey. I've seen ads for it, but did he sell it?

#009 - Tech-Speed (Arkas) bio-fuel car. No idea if they still own it.

#010 was destroyed in a crash in 2004.

#011 - Is this car still owned by VX Racing?

I've got some info on most, but not very deep. Only the Integras are a bit more expanded - I thought I'd start with the Astras and work my way down.

I heard back from Daniels Motorsport: Their car now belongs to Brian Roper of Halifax.

Martin Johnson

At the opening rounds of the 2009 BTCC at Brands Hatch at the weekend Martin Johnson drove what the programme described as the Astra Coupe that Erkut Kizilirmak raced in Turkey last year. Is this 008?

Hi, appreciate this is an old thread, but just thought I'd update that I have just purchased 008. The car is a bit tatty, and has a non original S2000 engine in but inside its just like the pictures from 2003. Will race it in the UAE touring car championship this year, and maybe look at restoring it to its former glory next summer
