I was thinking about the RX-8SP when the 12Hour was announced. I know it's production based but I'd like to see the RX-8SP included especially in BP livery. A standard version wouldn't have much chance against the Sti's, EVO's and HSV's.

I hear GM and HSV will soon announce the impending release of a superlighweight blown 8 litre 8speed AWD Monaro, running full V8SC chassis/suspension and aero etc, similar to Garry Rogers' mule (you didnt realise that was a production prototype, did you?)
This will be elligable of course, but after it beats all the other stock production cars, it will be quietly shelved. Seriously tho.. im excited, and will be there! |

Many years ago the bloke who controlled the Bathurst 500 declared, "If I can't sit in the back, it's banned."
I'd like to see the race restricted to cars with a minimum of four seats. |

His name was Jack Hinxman and he did that because "his" Bathurst 500 was for mass production sedans or derivatives. In other words, it had to have a rear seat with proper leg space.
I somehow think production cars have moved on a bit since Jack's day. And how do you define "a minimum of four seats", David? There are a lot of cars that fit that criteria but the back of the front seat almost touches the front of the back seat cushion. So does that conform to being a proper seat? Personally I'd be going on minimum production numbers with the baseline set at a realistic level to stop anything that remotely resembles a special. How about a minimum 1000 units for local cars, 5000 units for imports? That way the HSV and FPV stuff gets a run but a Porsche Carrera GT4 or Ferrari Enzo does not. |

A factory-prepped BMW 120d or 320d turbo diesel with the same standard of prep shown at the nurburgring 24hrs would be hard to beat at Bathurst with the right pilots at the wheel.....

I think you could expect GT3 cars to lead the field.

I don't think any talk of Elfins, GT3s etc fits in with what MtPanorama has already stated.... So you'd be looking at what runs currently (and what people have in the shed but havent run yet) - HSV, FPV, RX7s, EVOs, STi and WRX, SS, XR8/XR6T, SV6, Satrias, Celicas, MR2s, BMWs, Citroen, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo etc etc. Think 2Hour race a couple of years ago. |

I have been told that there is a Mazda 3 SP23 from ACT getting put together for APCC and an RX8 for GTP..
Lets hope Alan Horsley looks at the MPS 6 or 3 for the 12hr as I think in current spec the RX8 would have trouble keeping the other competitors in site. As for the Ford share yes they did buy into a Mazda when they were in trouble and this helped both companies as Ford had no replacement for the Escort and Cortina... Now that Mazda can stand on their feet it has been looked at it would like to buy back some shares from Ford. So lets start a roll call of who will be going and make a huge meet for the weekend... |

The Bathurst 12hr of old was a lot of fun for all involved, many weekend racers combined budgets in one car and did more laps around Bathurst than they could in a Bathurst 1000.
To bring up to date it would need to use current rules for each category, whether they be prod car or ute. To cater for those people/manufacturers that want to be first over the line, what about an 'open' class, or run what you brung. Old VS V8 supercars, ferrari, monaro, sports sedan (if you think it can last 12 hours), would be good to see some of these fast cars come out of the shed. |

Lets hope we get a healthy mixture of manufactures and models entering this event...like days gone by the Bathurst 12hr of the 90's grew to be a great showroom showdown.

What is this fascination with "open rules"?

Dunno about confirmed but it's pretty much common knowledge at the moment.

It is confirmed!
There will be a release at the end of the month in regards to the exact catagories, costs, times etc. I will try and find out an exact date for this in the next couple of days. |

If the race hopes to attract broad interest from outside the motorsport community it really should not be open to exotics such as Porsche's,Ferrari's etc. but should be set at the level of cars competing currently in Performance and Production cars. Also the idea listed in a previous post of starting the race at 5am is a joke.Only the fanatics(i.e. people who post on forums like this)would get up to make the start at this time and for most spectators if they can't see the start they wouldn't bother going. The old 12 hour only had this start time to facilitate live TV of the finish and surely no one can realistically expect this race to be able to afford the million dollar cost of live TV in its first year.

So how about 8am to 8pm?
I just hope that they can get a highlights package onto FTA TV. A well-advertised 1-2hr package would whet people's appetites to come and watch it live next year. And if they could get some name drivers there as well... |
