RSR TO DEBUT JAGUAR XKR GT2 AT PETIT LE MANS

EAST LANSING, Michigan (September 8, 2009) - RSR is scheduled to debut the Jaguar XKR GT2, the newest entry in the American Le Mans Series, at the famed Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, September 24 - 26.

In preparation for a full championship season effort in 2010, the team plans to enter the last two events on the 2009 ALMS schedule using the track time for testing and development. The car is undergoing extensive system tests at RSR's East Lansing, Michigan facility and is being prepared for a performance evaluation and shakedown prior to Road Atlanta.

The team will be hosting a press conference on Thursday, September 24 at Road Atlanta to officially unveil the car, drivers for 2009, and tire partners. Complete details on the event to follow.

Bob Riebe User has been fined for unsportsmanlike behaviour!
Starting in the fifties, picking your choice of class, or formula: regs. favored smaller, then larger, then smaller, then larger, then smaller, then larger... engines.

All roads are two-way streets. Any that go only one-way, lead to extinction.

There is no longer modern, or high-tech. etc; there is now only which decades old idea/s does one want to redo.

I think the ALMS wants to keep the spec nature of the FLM, but I like that idea of running a 2011 P2 with them. Could be interesting to see how they stack up against each other.

Well, the FLM cars with the Panoz engine are nothing else than 2011 LMP2.
Think the ACO has to take care that chassis costs will be on a low level in that new class. Otherwise someone puts an engine in the expensive RS Spyder chassis and we are back where we are atm

I think Porsche would have collective heart failure is somehow one of their chassis ended up with another engine in it, plus I think it was largely designed for the power plant that is in it, to work as a integrated system-or maybe it does have core possibilities for LMP1 upgrade. The Zytek looks a good bit of kit for LMP2 class, and probably could be modified if needed, or the Lola, or Oreca/Courage, as I think they all are somewhat flexible in the engine bay area to accept a production engine.

Another good piece by J. Dagys with Hugues de Chaunac.
Quote:
DAGYS: Many are already saying that this year’s Petit Le Mans could very well be a race for the ages, with Audi, Peugeot, Acura, ORECA and Drayson Racing’s new prototype all battling for LMP1 honors. How do you think the team will stack up to the tough competition?

DE CHAUNAC: Our main target will be to see how we are in comparison to Acura because they also have a petrol car. For us, we’re very excited to be in front of Acura. We realize they know the track and have many advantages, but our goal will be to get as close to them as possible.

We’re very realistic about our chances. We’re coming to learn the most we can, as our target is to compete at Sebring next March. This means it’s necessary to do this race in preparation for next year.

We’re going to run our own race, which means our first priority is to be there at the finish and not have any problems. By staying out of trouble, we feel that we can be on a good pace to the Acuras. It will be a tough race against the Audis and Peugeots, as normally, we’d be about two seconds per lap behind them.
Here

So we already have our first European team stating they will be at Sebring in '10.

Rather they are stating they would 'like to' be at sebring, two completely different things as we have seen in the past. We'll know for sure when the actual Sebring entry is released. Fingers crossed

Hmm, stating that

is, IMO, more than a 'would like to'. But that is just my take on it, I guess.

de Chaunac is pretty honest and straight forward. If he says this, I believe there is a very good chance he will follow through.

See on DSC that Creation are firming up their plans for 2010 - looking for a full season in the ALMS with a V8 powerplant - any thoughts on what that might be?

It mentions they like their car better with a shorter wheelbase which makes me think the car will be similar to a current P2, so I'd guess a Judd, or possibly Zytek V8.

AER, Acura is talking about possible lease program, don't know if it would be in anything other than an Acura but HPD does lease a lot of engines in the IRL. Nissan is supposed to be coming on line with a V8... But as Graham said, it is all up in the air at the moment.

But wouldn't that be something if there was some type of an engine program from Audi for the 2011 p2 rules? We know that make a dang good petrol engine from the R8 gt3 car that can last 24 hours.

Wonder who the Porsche team will be in 2010 that has been a big Porsche player in the past? first thought is Penske but there's also Alex Job and TRG.

They're not exactly big ticket, but Orbit used run GT2 Porsches and are back in GTC right now. Perhaps they'll step up to a faster class next year.
