Why were the Honda's so irrelevant last weekend?

Good question.

I was not surprised by the pace of the SC430 seeing how strong they have been in all races this season. But the lack of pace of the HSV's (except for KEIHIN HSV in the hands of Tsukakoshi who reduced the gap to the leader by a few seconds in his stint and set the fastest lap) was a surprise. Especially at this track which is supposed to be one of the most favorable for them.

I wish there was more information available to the fans. And I miss Samurai's summaries translation of Matsumoto's (Honda GT project leader) track reports.

^The weight handicap! here's the totals for the race for each GT500 car http://supergt.net/pages/pg:results/devicec/ln:en/year:2012/round:9/gt_class:gt500/result_menu:race/result_menu_2:total Only the Denso and the Zent SC430 had more ballast than the HSV's.

So what do you mean is... That no matter what ballast they received, the Lexus SC430s are not affected and they're still winning?

The HSV only has one win. I haven't looked through podium places but there is no way they should have been ballasted that much to be totally irrelevant in the last round. There lack of performance almost overshadows the first corner muck-up by the two Nissans.

The most ballasted SC430 won? Thats news to me. Read it again and see how much weight the winning car had compared to the Keihin HSV. I was alluding to maybe the HSV doesn't go as well with weight handicaps as other cars. The Zent Cerumo SC430 in particular.

Rather than the Keihin HSV look to the Raybrig HSV with 70kg, only the Zent Cerumo SC430 had more ballast.

The top 2 lexuses had about avg 25kg. The Wieder and Keihin HSV's had some 50 - 70 kg. So about 25-50kg weight difference. The HSV is pretty much suppose to be the fastest car. So adding weight should not have negated the advantage so much that all teams where no where in the race. The Keihin HSV had the fastest lap after all.

Maybe it was the tire issues because of the added weight? I may have missed the on track incidents with HSV's or maybe it was just a bad luck weekend. If that was all I hope they get back up to speed for the next round.

Autosport SUGO round tech review.

**GT500
-In the SUGO round, Honda and Lexus introduced the 2nd fresh engine.
-Phase2 engine of Lexus has improved low-speed torque with heat resistance. Phase2 engine of Honda reduced the friction loss, and has improved all-band torque.
-However, Honda was not able to cancel "medium-understeering (understeer in the middle of a corner)". This delays the throttle-on timing at the time of corner escape, and straight line speed is inferior as a result. Honda was inferior to rivals in the time of the sector 2.
-Tom's (#36) changed the rear tire into 17inches from 18inches (with new compound/structural tire).

**GT300
-SUBARU BRZ (#61) extended the front tread and changed tire size.
(F,R; 300/710, 330/710 to 300/680, 300/710)
-apr PRIUS (#31) changed front tire size and equipped the air-con.
-ARTA Garaiya (#43) introduced the rear third damper.
-Shift Mercedes SLS (#52) removed air-con, and carried out the 25kg weight saving.
-Mugen CR-Z (#16) had a trouble with which the motor assistance does not operate by high temperature in the end of the race.

That makes more sense to explain their lack of pace than the weight handicap.
Still, it's strange how they suddenly can't find a setup for a track they always do well at. I hope this is not a sign for things to come.

Samurai-san, do you have any information about the rumours regarding a GT500 car at Le Mans next year in Garage 56?

Well I think if push comes t shove. And FIA WEC can gain more Asian exposure from allowing one GT500 car then it wouldnt be unreasonable to allow it.

Im not convinced the Gt500 champs even want to do Le Mans. It would be incredibly boring racing in your own class. That didnt stop the Delta Wing, a toyota did, but still.

Endurance-Info's report is almost correct.

Good to see Richard Lyons back in SGT. Anyone know what he has been up to in the meantime?
