Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup 2012
This should be an epic season, some very good drivers in it this year. I would have to say Hansen, De Vries, Nato or Kyvat for the title, very interested to see how Alex Albon goes though.

i'll throw paul loup chatin's name into the ring, he came pretty close to the alps title and when things were right he did well (eg the paul ricard rounds of alps and eurocup). not convinced a direct title challenge will materialise but he'll keep the lower end of the top 4 honest. same with guys like timmy hansen, and for me, nato too. i don't know if he's quite there yet. he was, like chatin, quite patchy last year.
the field size is immense though, it's certainly proving a point about value for money and good organisation. |

I don't know about the value for money thing as it's more expensive than in the past, but certainly good promotion & good, solid organization are attracting drivers! Will be very closely contested season. Kvyat is the guy with pressure to win, de Vries can surprise and I'll be interested in following the other karting stars But really, should be easy for Kvyat and if he makes it hard, then Helmut Marko won't be pleased!

Very surprised that you haven't included Oli Rowland in your list of championship contenders, especially as he is, deservedly, the winner of the McLaren Autosport award.

easily forgotten, it's not exactly a 10 car grid is it! the entry list is well over 30...
anyone else? btw i meant value for money versus the uk series for example. |

Dont count out Nick Cassidy as well. Hes a very fast driver and has been able to jump into these cars and go quick! Lack of knowledge compaird to many others though with the cars and tracks means hes a bit behind but he can still jump in and go fast which is very impressive. Stoffel Vandoorne will be one of the title contenders too.
Testing at Barcelona is very soon i believe. Is it today that it begins or is it a few days away? Last edited by N.A-D.R; 19 Mar 2012 at 06:40. |

Oh, yeah, he was super fast in testing, but lacks track knowledge! If he manages to fight for the championship, it will be a superb effort by him.

What about Mathieu Vaxiviére? He is the champion of French F4, like Vandoorni in 2010... He's promising too.

Like Dominic has said, Oli Rowland will be a serious contender for victory this season. From every I have talked to, he has an incredible talent. Hopefully he stays focused on his on-track activities, if he can he'll be hard to beat.

i think on the whole if you're looking for a series to follow passively then i think this is the one. it has massive potential, particularly after last year.
going to spend the year mistaking the tech1 cars for the manor mp ones though |

Times and the gaps are crazy! From 1st to 16th they are under 1 second off and then 1st to 36th is under 2 seconds. 44th is 3.3 seconds 1st off which isn't really too bad really but everyone is so tight it's amazing!
By the way is there any places where there are pictures taken off this test? |

Vandoorne leads from Kvyat, Rowland, Nato and Weckstrom. This time 22 drivers in 1 second, looks like a super competitive season like GP3 last year.
But I just saw that Miki Weckstrom is suddenly part of the Red Bull scheme. After 2 seasons in Eurocup at 19 y.o. he has grand total of 1 podium & 3 fastest laps after racing for Koiranen & Tech 1. Hardly an exciting prospect! |

There was a huge crash in Spa. Victor Franzoni run flat out to spinning Dan De Zille and collected Norman Nato with him. Apparently everyone are OK besides some bruises. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQK5CGUJIlY
During the Spa WSbR event it was announced that there'll be a new Tatuus FR2.0 car for 2013 season. Renault Sport talks about upgrade kit but as it includes new monocoque, I consider it new car. Safety and aerodynamics are improved while the powertrain and "all the existing mechanical and electronic elements" remain the same. |
