As far as factory-backed racing of any type, the Jaguar name hasn't been seen at a racetrack since a poor showing in F1 during the 2000-2004 seasons. With the new F-type coupe coming, we think it's time for the company to jump back into motorsports, and with concepts like the Jaguar Project 7 harkening back to the legendary D-type, Jaguar seems interested in reviving its racing efforts.

With that in mind, meet our exclusive artist's render of what a Jaguar F-type GT3 would look like. The F-type's slinky shape, which was all but completely previewed by the C-X16 concept, wears the GT3 kit naturally. Already aggressive, it rocks huge diffusers, big fender flares, and quad exhausts like it was always meant to. Of course, in our mind, the car would be smothered in classic British Racing Green like many of the previous race-winning Jaguars.

As the smallest Jaguar, the F-type is the perfect size for racing. It's longer than the Aston Martin Vantage but shorter than the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette and the Ferrari 458. The F-type is also wider than the Vantage and the Corvette, but narrower than the 458 Italia. It seems to be a "Goldilocks" car in the exterior dimensions department.

Jaguar would likely turn to the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 found in the XF and XK for power. ACO regulations for forced-induction cars are much stricter, and with a 4.0-liter maximum engine size, Jaguar would be required to use the company's supercharged V6. With a maximum engine displacement of 5.5-liters for naturally aspirated engines, the 5.0-liter would be a solid fit. With a bit of fettling, Jaguar could easily push the V8 to 475-500 hp. For comparison, the Ferrari teams use a 4.5-liter V8 that pumps out around 470 hp, and the Porsche 911 RSR is a 4.0-liter unit with around 460 hp.

This is also a great time to re-enter racing, as many marques have started to increase their motorsport presence. Aston Martin began competing again in 2005 after a 16-year hiatus; Bentley announced its GT3 Racer in 2012; and BMW is back in DTM after it left in 1992. Even Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and Nissan are jumping in with entries into Australia's V8 Supercar series.

The timing is right, and the hardtop F-type gives Jaguar the tool it needs to re-enter into the world of wheel-to-wheel competition.

Judging by pics, is more an high performance version of the street F-type. More similiar to a GT4, if the class still exists.

Right, thats a far cry from what GT3's look like. Will have to be wider and a much bigger wing.

This technically isn't sportscar news, but it's interesting to hear that Michelin may have been testing for F1 tires with the 4th Audi at the Le Mans Test Day (since it's a hybrid on a high-speed track).

I really don't get that Audi test link. In any case the tyre isn't the same and still very different type of car, KERS or not. Sounds really far fetched and so does this whole deal becoming reality, considering that is already September. Seems more like flirting from Michelin and posturing from FIA directed to Pirelli.

Cotton repeats that Michelin does not want to be a sole supplier but apparently that is no longer a problem.

Michelin wants to be a tire supplier in F1 but with tires that relate to production car tires.

13 inch tires do not relate to production cars today! (17-20 inch does)

Next year, the whole point of the 2014 tech rules was to have a powertrain that would be a testing bed that would improve future production cars.

FIA thinks the same way as Michelin but the F1 Boss already spent Pirelli's bribe money so he is staying with Pirelli

Even 16" wheels on F1 would be great. Their diameter isn't the only problem but also their width. Something Mercedes wants to change.
