1999 ASTCC Hyundai Lantra pics

Hello, I was wondering if anybody had pictures or livery descriptions on the two Hyundai Lantras raced in the 1999 ASTCC by Nigel Stones and Claude Elias. Any info would be very helpful.

Its getting a complete tear down after this weekend and restored back to the plain white livery.
The #14 in the background is the yellow car posted above.

The first car was built back in 1994 in time for Bathurst with the second car following towards the end of 1995. The cars turned light blue in 1997. The Bathurst 1000 photos GTR Magic posted in his first post are mine - taken 1997, 1998 and 1998. The two cars went there separate ways after that. I think the #58 car became the #37 Stones Motor Sport car becoming dark blue in 2000 I think. The #14 car went to Redline Motorsport and Claude Leabeater as the #97 car and turned yellow in 1999. Think the Stones car was still light blue in 1999.

Wikipedia has all the Australian Super Touring results fairly well documented.

the #58 is SHM002 which was sold to the Stones and last ran in 99 @ OP.
its been in a shed since then under cover till i bought it last year.
The paint on it now was a pretty rushed job i'd say considering you can see the old HVE aqua colour show up in various spots and a few runs here and there.

Claude Elias and Paul Leabeater drove the #97

Thx, I'm looking forward to getting stuck into it as soon as it gets back from Summernats where its on display at the moment... guess it would be even more hilarious seeing the car out on track and then as soon as it comes in to the pits, out hops a paraplegic into his wheelchair, dont think many would see that coming

as for what class, pretty much anything that will allow it, but it wont be a serious effort because its not like parts are readily avail still... the spares I have are it basically... last resort would be machining up new parts which i dont even want to think about how expensive that would be

Are we able to trace which car was the original #80 car from 1994, and which one was the second one built, #81, in 1995?

Colin Bond built them both did he not, and drove the original at Wellington in 1994 for the Asia-Pacific Touring Car Championship round.

In 1995 Jim Richards test drove the newer car, originally with the view to racing it, but shied away from it after the test.

They had different fuel tanks, different gear (sequential) shifters, different rear body floor pans, and I think different engine locations. Fair amount of differences between the two.

You may be able to pick it from photos due to the ride height on the older one being higher than the later built car. The older one being a lot closer to a standard shell.

Bingo! I dont know what all was different but from what i've been told, i think the earlier car (which im sure has to be SHM001) was first a production based car before being turned into ST specs?? anyone know for sure?? From what i understand SHM002 was built to ST Specs from the get go?

Im pretty sure this is the other one which is now yellow before the aero bits......

The first car was originally Hardmans production racecar IIRC.

Jim shied away from it is an understatment. An out lap and an in lap at Amaroo was enough to convince him never to sit in the car again. The words he used to describe the car were quite colourful.

Imagine how 'nice' the Caltex Corollas built by the same group would have been? At least one of them were 'ratted' to the bare shell to knock up the Lantras.... by Mr Bond & co
