On this topic, I hear DTM being slagged for being terribly boring, but hear no such thing about V8 Supercars. I caught a bit of a V8 Supercars race at some god-forsaken hour on TV here on a street course and it looked like a riot.
As both of these series only have two manufacturers in them, what is it that makes DTM so crap and V8S so good? |

1) The ridiculously strict stewards - Pretty much everything aside from driving in formation is off-limits... touching another car is almost an instant penalty.. absolutely insane when you´re claim to be a touring car series 2) The cars have way too little mechanical grip due to very narrow tires and other factors. That makes the cars very aero-dependant, cars are heavily affected by dirty air etc. This causes very little overtaking as pretty much all position changes happen in the pits. It's basically like Formula One's worst phase a few years ago... the current F1 races have surpassed the DTM in terms of racing action on track. |

If the DSC article is true (i have no doubt it is) then next year could be the last 24h race at the ring.

Until know, the shenanigans of the new owners have not affected the sport but only the locals, the businesses around the ring and the attending fans.
If they start negatively affecting the racing at the ring then this historical venue is doomed. I´m lost for words really, one can only hope that some people will be stepping up and stop this nonsense before it is too late. |

Wow, all I can say is I cannot believe these corrupt apes are still in power at the Ring. The possibility of losing one of the worlds greatest motor races is both disgusting and unacceptable. However, This would really wake the world up to the actions of the current Nurburgring ownership.

The new owners are alienating absolutely everyone, they even ****ed off the manufacturers who do the lionshare of testing laps on the Nordschleife.
Both BMW and Porsche are planning to scale back their testing activity on the ring big time because the new owners have been running up the prices like crazy. The whole situation is a scandal and nothing less. |

If the owners of the Nürburgring manage to expel the 24h race from the circuit, they should hire some bodyguards for their own safety.

I supposse this is all just posturing... the ADAC needs the 'Ring more than the 'Ring needs ADAC... I supposse if the ADAC pulled out, they would simply organize the 24 on their own. Without the Ring the 24hour race is nothing and the ADAC knows that.

What do those idiots have to gain from this? Destroying the circuit and building hotels? I don't get what goes in the heads of these guys.... greedy *******s just jacking up the prices for an easy buck.
I seriously hope some manufacturers and ADAC squeeze them to a pulp and stop this insanity. |

Why have they gone back to May? I thought June was a good date.
These guys are useless... |

Since the organizers want to have the race on a weekend that has a Holiday on the Thursday ahead of it, there are only two possible dates: the weekend after Ascencion-day and the weekend after Corpus Christi.
Next year, Le Mans will be on the Corpus Christi weekend, so they can't really have it there, which will only leave the Ascencion-day weekend in May. |

That's unfortunate. It will have to do.
On a side note, it appears Audi is 'selling' the TT RS as their next GT4 car. It did really well so we shall see who bites next year. Might be a car to see in European and national GT championships. |

I think that the Audi TT RS designed for the VLN is a different car to that designed for GT4.
On a different note, & at a more clubbie level, anyone know anything about the old Audi V8 & Audi A8 W12 that have raced sporadically in the VLN & 24 hr races over the past few years. I just think its great that amongst the factory & very professional GT team efforts people can still drive such cars in this great race. |

I obviously can't comment on the drivers competence behind the wheel but you suggest that despite not being an obvious base car to go racing with, that the Audi V8 & A8 did have some pace. I believe that an MTM powered Audi 200 quattro turbo also entered for about 11 years running until about 2005(ish) so there appears to be a place for some oddball entries. No one should enter, though, who could be dangerous to others.
