Mansell & Hill for Premer 1 GP?

The Premier 1 GP is making a feeble effort to win fans by trying to attract Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill to race in the series!

But could it work? I don't think it will, Mansell and Damon are too big for a series like that!

If this is serious, they won't justify the "Premier" tag for long - or is it the Historic Premier 1 GP?

I've heard that they're talking to Mark Blundell and Mr Herbert as well - How about calling it British Historic Premier 1 GP??

Number Juan has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
they would need a hell of a lot of money to get damon and mansell behind the wheel of those cars. i think it will be a big big flop.

Much as I'd like to see Johnny Herbert back in an F1 (sort of) car, he's much better off racing sports cars and indycars in the States. And as for Nigel - come off it!!

I don't think we'll see Hill driving again, and money never really was an issue with him when it came to racing, he was never that high up the earners list compared to the rest of the grid even after he got his WDC.

Mansell on the other hand would drive anything if the price is right, we've already had proof of that with BTCC and his fabled F1 return in '94/'95.

I predict Premier 1 will run out its first season with an average of 4 viewers per race, then fold.

Geez... isnt this Premeire 1 supposed to rival F1? When has it become the dumping ground for retired drivers who are past their peak...

Soon, we'd see Alesi, Mika and the other guys in P1, and we'd be able to watch not only current F1, but also how F1 looks 10years ago, over a weekend... yucks~

I reckon it'd be great

See the old school still out there racing?

Why not, it'd be another series to follow which is fine by me.

Too much racing ??????

Hey - surely this is heaven for all F1 whingers & moaners... For a start they're going to have a load of has-been drivers (plenty of posters here seem to think that older = better, so that must be a good thing?); then the cars will all be equal (again, many seem to feel that the differences between cars "spoils the racing" in F1, so this must be good too...); and the cars will be wide-track on slicks (so the overtaking will be just like in the good old days, surely?).

On a slightly more serious note - does anyone know what the transmission and brakes will be?

And if Manchester United get a team will they casually trundle around in third place, and then nip forward and nick it in the last few seconds?

yeah its like the senior pga tour or the tennis senior tournaments. purely for the people who keep ranting about how todays drivers aint nothing compared to the 'ol "gentlemen". and soon enough, they'll come back to f1 disillusioned and disgusted. the ole gentlemen were certainly good but drivers now are no less. plus premier series has history. most undertakings that have had huge investments and hype have been huge mistakes.

Hmm...if the series wanna attract those who keep thinking of the "old days", i think manual gearshifts and all would have to take charge...and if they wanna attract me and differentiate themselves from other series like F1, Cart F3000, and so on...i'd prefer if they do away with the brakes...

Hugh, you forgot SAGA!

It says on my news service here that they have Leeds United and Benfica confirmed. Three more European clubs are expected to announce their involvement on Thursday, and the organisers are still in negotiations with Manchester United and Juventus. It goes on to say that it is the football clubs who are the ones interested in Hill and Mansell, not the organisers.

I still don't think it will ever get off the ground. Even if it does, it's not going to be much more than a glorified F3000 race.

Nigel Mansell

Nigel Mansell, if he is to return will race a road car i.e BTCC he has been quoted in the past that driving a F1 car again in race conditions is unrealistic.
The same goes for Damon Hill.

Guy

Thanks Guy, it looks as though the organisers of Premier F1 are still intent on keeping it in the spotlight by using misleading press reports.

age

when taking drivers ages into consideration dont forget how old some indy drivers are and have been in the past as long as the series has f3000 type grip most drivers of any age would cope well
