Tid Bits

Well done to Allmendinger on his first career Pole

final qualifying was somewhat of a let down after several red flags.

1. Dominguez and Tagliani got together after alex seemed to be driving very slow on racing line

2. Alex Sperafico crashed hard against the wall and at the same time Justin Wilson and Timo Glock got together , glock ending in the wall.

Sebastien Bourdais qualified down in 10th position , this is only his 2nd worst qualifying effort in his career (he qualified 13th in his only outside top 10 start last year )

Ricardo Sperafico has equaled his best starting position of 13th

SpeedTV is reporting that "official attendance Saturday was set at 66,250 - an increase of some 10,000 over the opening day gate of 55,722 and some 13,000 more people than there are grandstand seats."

On a rainy day as well! They should have a pretty good crowd today. The track looks really good too. No offence to Vancouver but I think as far as the circuit looks, I think Edmonton is a step up. Fast corners that bite, great stuff. I've never been to Edmonton before and I think a trip out West for next year might not be a bad idea.
Really looking forward to todays action.

Even though A.J was pretty tore up after the race in Toronto, he put himself together shortly and went right into the practice for this Edmonton race. I must give him the thumbs up he deserves for the professionalism! Besides, it looks like A.J and Justin's patience & belief in their cars is finally paying off!oh~I am so nervous about today's race I can't even start my sunday house cleaning! I can't bake, I can't go anywhere but patiently waiting here eating my tiger power cereal....

Paul Page has done quite a good job. He knows the drivers and the teams, and is making decent observations. Memo is okay too. The Global TV director though... ouch.

Edmonton 80'000 +

Hey guys what a race today and it looked the like the fans loved it! I think it was a totall success. The question I have is this track was part airport so does it cost as much as much as putting on a Street Course or did Champ Car make alot of money today from the great turn out?

Ether way the race was great and the fans loved it and I loved watching all the drama play out on Tv. Great Job done by the Top 4 drivers.

66'000 at qualifying while it was raining.

As far as "the Global TV director" is concerned... As far as I know Molstar is producing all of the events. But I totally agree with your "ouch" statement! They're approaching the white flag and suddenly they break away to an interview with Allmendinger. And then they show a replay! Terrible.

RuSport has become an awesome team in a very short period of time. I'm extremely impressed not only with the drivers, but with their entire infrastructure. From the shock program to the lugnuts.

Never before have I seen a driver as visibly devastated as Allmendinger was. I like him, and I sympathize with him, but that was a bit much IMO.

The crowd was really something! On several occasions they were making more noise than the cars were! Ranger got one heckuva ovation, and then later the same for AJ. The latter isn't a Canuck, so it just goes to show that Canadian fans are real race fans.

Watching the Global feed from Toronto, and I found the commercial breaks quite interesting. Almost all of them were from Edmonton-based companies, and race sponsors. This is great.
-West Edmonton Mall (Presenting sponsor)
-Finning (Caterpillar tractors)
-"Sawmill" (Edmonton restaurant)
-"Sutton Place" (Edmonton Hotel)
-Grand & Toy (Race sponsor)
-Konica/Minolta (Weren't they supposed to be sponsoring Jenson?)

The crowds, the sponsors, the track...
Edmonton and ChampCars are a perfect match!

Yup, RD was rubbish here too, which is annoying because we pay for it.. Eurosport wasn't too bad though except when they didn't know why everyone was doing a drive through during the last yellow..

Great race, even if Justin blew it..

Terrific race even though the result was exactly what I didn't want to happen. Just goes to show that to win the race, first you must finish. My heart really went out for AJ. I think his reaction was just an example of his passion and desire to succeed. That same desire that has taken him to the top of the game in such a remarkably short period of time. We are going to see Allmendinger on the top step very soon IMO. I think maybe Servia could show a little of that drive. Maybe it is just me but Servia seems just a little too content with podium finishes.
Wilson also must be kicking himself. I imagine AJ and Justin might be drowning their sorrows later this evening in some cold ones. Will be interesting to see how Rusport bounces back after this.
Bourdais is one lucky bugger!

Indeed a great race track and a fantastic race, more a thriller! And what A.J., Wilson and Tracy had shown was racing at his best... At least the only thing that makes me a little bit angry was that gift for Bourdais.
