[LM24] F1 attacks Le Mans

F1 gets a bit insecure about the growing appeal and relevancy of sportscar racing and the potential threat posed by the EVO rules.

Ron Dennis should know better. It is a race for the whole 24 hours, its a 24 hour sprint. The only difference is that you dont make so many risky manouvers.

Same goes for Ross Brawn. Pacing yourself? Back in the 80's that was true of LM. Like eveyone says, its a 24 hour sprint.

Robert Kubica, a driver at the BMW Sauber team, who won the Canadian Grand Prix last Sunday, said that he had never even watched Le Mans on television. He said he did not like that so much depended on car consistency and reliability.

"Speed is secondary," he said. "I'm the kind of person who likes to push. At Le Mans, you have to push less. It's a kind of different sport."

Kubica is just stupid and ignorant here. Maybe he should have come over and watched the race on his weekend off.

Kubica needs to get in a sports car and have McNish and Kristensen and a few of the boys blow by him a few times so he gets educated.

I don't really see it as F1 attacking Le Mans. Your thread title is more sensationalist than that article.

As someone else has pointed out, its all very coordinated and somewhat reminiscent of the attacks on CART in the last 1990s.

There's usually an F1 race on Le Mans weekend, and I'm sure Kubica had races before he was in F1 on the same weekend. If he's not interested, why should he take the time to watch it, even if he's not busy?

Le Mans is not a sprint all the time.

Read the other comment from Brawn. He's been there himself too.

Imho that "24 hour sprint" is more of a saying than true. Super reliable diesels have proven you can run flat out 24 hours, but they don't because it's very very risky.

But from some of those comments you can read between the lines odd dislike, which is interesting from such persons.

True. They don't care and they don't have time. Hell, Kimi Raikkonen didn't even know about the Q3 rule change that happened after Malaysian GP... and that's much more relevant than watching Indy 500 is for Allan McNish.

And it was great that there was no F1 GP clash this time (don't know about next year as F1 calendar is not yet locked, hopefully not!). It was reported there were a lot more reporters in Le Mans that would normally be reporting about F1 GP.

I think that might be a bit harsh. Kubica prefers a different type of racing. LM is not an all out sprint, F1 races are until the victory has been more or less assured. Just because he'd rather push to the absoulte limit for an hour and a half instead of just under the limit for 24 doesn't make him an idiot...

If a chicken could speak, it would say more intelligent things than kubica and all the others formula 1 establishment members.
They are only interested to money and business. Nothing else. Spy stories, thieves... You can't find anything of this in the Endurance.
Here you can find only the real motorsport essence: courage, greatful drivers, cars and teams, wonderful races and fair play.
They afraid for endurance rebirth, because they know all this. They know endurance is better than their false, dirty world.

Sorry, Mr.Chicken... your ignorance is greater than all the distance run by Audi in the last Le Mans...
