Penske loses two race cars and most of equipment in fire.
A truck transporting the two Penske race cars and a lot of thier equipment caught fire as they were being transported to Sears Point. Both cars were lost and "90% of the equipment" was lost too. No one was hurt.

What a disaster. Hopefully as one of the bigger teams they have spares to be able to race.

yea they have spare cars if you read the whole article but the spares are set up for the next oval race.

It is a disaster for teams like Kruse and Suntust (Wayne Taylor) it is an inconvenience for a team like Penkse...
still bad though, I really hope these transporter fires are over...

What the Autosport article doesn't mention is that they were unable to call for a fire engine sooner as they're mobile phones had no coverage.
The sponsor of of Roger's #12 Nascar? Alltel, a telecomms company

Melted mess anyone???
That is unless the driver didn't steal stuff first, then torch the truck to cover his tracks.

Apparently both of the chassis were able to roll so they may be salvageable over the off-season.
Also, a lot of the tools that were in cases ended up being fine even though the cases themselves came out pretty worse for wear.
