Worst Driver/Team to Win Race/Championship?
This popped into my head last night - what is the worst team to win a race? what abut a championship?
Same with a driver - what do you guys think?
I think this is pretty interesting to discuss personally.

By definition, no "bad" driver has ever become an F1 champion.

Nope, you just can't be a bad driver, or team, and win a championship.
In fact, I can't think of a bad driver or team winning a f1 GP. A few lucky ones maybe, but never a bad one.

If you took it to mean worst as slowest etc, maybe Fisi's win in the Jordan would rank pretty high.

I know. What about Panis is Monaco. That Ligier was crap.

I'd go with Fisichella in the Jordan at Brazil in 2003. Obviously a great driver in a legendary team, but let's face it, that car was absolutely nowhere.

Fisichella did somehow qualify 8th that weekend, even though it was usually the 7th-9th best car on the grid. That and the Ligier of Panis are probably the worst cars to win a race in recent years. Panis might be the 'worst' driver, but even he was no mug - consistantly brought the car home, if nothing else.

I did nowhere say "bad." I said who was the worst - I'm talking about a team that was very lucky, things went good, their driver had a good race, etc etc.

Vittorio Brambilla springs to mind.......
More recently? Dunno, but if Damon Hill's gearbox had kept going at the Hungaroring 1997 Arrows would have taken one of the most unlikely wins in a looooooong time.

Ok, Ultimo says "worst" and baclightning says "bad."
So I suppose I am still looking to define the parameters as the 1997 Arrows was "unlikely" but neither bad nor worst with the same applying to Brambilla.
This whole "worst" thing is confusing as I am not sure how to apply the "Luck" factor...even a "good" team can have a "lucky" win...

You could say Vettel's recent win was one... then again, no F1 driver is "bad"...
If rosset or whoever that Japanese fellow who drove a little last year won, then that would be what I would call "bad".
Piquet Jnr got 2nd this year... that one would be the one I'd pick if I had to.

Vettel's wouldve qualified had it stormed down in the middle of the race, or had there been a safety car just after he made his pitstop etc. He'd been strong all weekend and dominated the race, and even then the Toro Rosso is being touted as the 3rd-4th best car now. I think that just about takes him out of the running.
