Catalunya GP Bikes

Well, Rossi has his 4th pole from 6 races. Nakano is in second from Capirossi and Biaggi. McCoy is back and in 13th.

SPOILER WARNING!!!

Knowing some people get delayed coverage of the races, I shall warn them of content of this post.

Rossi did superb job recovering from that first corner 'incident', but I was amazed by Max' strong run as well. I'm glad he started putting his money where his mouth was. But that podium celebration was a bit *chilly*- maybe someone would be well advised to tell them to get hold of their egos and start behaving as grownups. Has anyone noticed a strange thing about post-race interview(s)? First came Rossi, did his part and left, ditto for Max and Capirossi? Is that room too smal to contain within two (God forbid three) such egos at the same time?!?

I think there was a punch up after the race between Biaggi and Rossi - I'm going to check the news.

Thanx for the info, Valve Bounce. Eurosport makes no mention of the incident but MotoGP does (apparently it happened on the way from post-race interview to the podium- but no 'gory' details *damn*, not even who started it), and that the both riders have been issued an official warning by FIM.

But they were apparently kept apart during interview, which is the first time I noticed something like that (usually all podium finishers are present on the conference at the same time), so it makes one wonder...

Alright, I hope Valentino jobbed him!
Biaggi has an overinflated opinion of himself as he proved when he stated he was going to beat Mick. Read 'em and weap Max,you should do all your talking on the track!

I have to wonder why Max is always the villian and Rossi is always the hero in most people's opinion!

Rossi did a great job in Catalunya, but he was fast all weekend and arguably has the best bike and best team, so it was largely expected. Max on the other hand struggled early on to find a set-up and rode a superb race to come through in second place. I doubt the Yamaha was capable of more.

Just my 2 cents worth

Cheers
Debbie

May I be the first one to welcome You aboard, Debs?

As for those two, I think that they both do their talking on the track (IIRC, both of them scored around 80% of the respective manufacturers' points). And- Max has showed he's not shy to use some dirty moves: as much as I like him, I was outraged by his move in Suzuka, and I do get an impression he's looking for a confrontation with Rossi. On the other hand Rossi might be playing for Max' temperament... I hope more info poppes up.

It was on channel 9

Darryl Eastlake just mentioned it this morning on Channel 9. He said that Rossi won the race and also won the punch up. It was about time max got his own back. I remember some years ago when he ran one of the other riders off hte track, I can't remember if it was capirossi or one of the other Italian riders, and whe hte guy tried to remonstrate with max, he said during the interview: "This is not the classical music". In sport, as in life, what goes round comes round.
However, I cannot find any details of the punch up in the new; actually, I can't find any news.

Big Welcome

Where are my manners? A big Welcome to Debs to our friendly forum which is free of insults and abuse. Please be advised that it is mandatory for all newbies to post in the F1 forum, so see you there. When you post 1000 posts, you qualify for the lucky draw for the Ferrari. The draw will be made when everyone reaches 1000 posts.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been lurking here for a while and thought it was time I actually contributed something.

I agree Max is no angel but I do think Rossi plays on that and then looks at everyone with that 'who me?' face and everyone believes him!

I do lurk on the F1 forum Valve Bounce, as well as the Indycar and Rallying ones... though it'd take me about 100 years to post 1000 posts! That Ferrari is pretty safe I'd say!

Welcome debs, this is one of the more civilised forums as are all bike enthusiasts...do you believe me yet?

Once i find some spare time I will finish watching the bike races. But from what I've heard it was a very interesting post-race time.

Look what I've found...

FIM press release
On Sunday 17 June, after the 500cc race, there was an altercation between
Italian riders Valentino Rossi and Massimiliano Biaggi, prejudicial to the
interests of the sport.

For this infraction to Art. 3.3.1.2 of the Road Racing World Championship
Grand Prix Regulations, the Race Direction decided to inflict upon each one
a warning.

The organisation of the Championship will take all necessary measures to
avoid such incidents in the future.

The riders have been informed that they are responsible for the behaviour of
their team members and related persons.

The Race Direction also informed the riders that a next infraction will be
sanctioned with a severe penalty.

Both riders and their teams promised to avoid any altercation in the future.

No appeal has been lodged.
The decision of the Race Direction is final.

First of all...a big welcome to Debbie.

elephino - Thanks for that piece of info.

I totally missed the Catalunya race that Sunday cos I was away. But I did saw bits here & there in the Sports News and thank god we have re-runs here. I think Rossi did a great come back from his 15th position in the first lap to make it all the way up to the front. And Max did show some aggressiveness towards the end of the race.

So what do you guys think of Nakano, having being 2nd from pole, and for the first time he did lead the 500cc race for a short period of time before he drop to 6th position (i think?). I think he was going great as well.

Sarah- I must admit Nakano puzzles me a bit... Did You see the charge he made on Capirossi in dying laps? That was awesome! But he tends to get lost in the middle of the races. Maybe he has developed some sort of tyre problems Williamses (F1) were expiriencing few races back (loss of grip after tyres get on working temperature, but in few laps regain that grip).

There could be any number of things that Nakano is being slow for. Whatever it may be, he is still doing an excellent job in his first year of 500s.
