Marshalling with BARC

Whilst browsing the BARC website, sad I know, but too cold and wet for Brands Hatch show, I came across a new document called "Marshalling with BARC".

This is a detailed and current interpretation of marshalling and officiating from the BARC point of view. It covers in detail the responsibilities of Post Chiefs, Flags, Track and Specialists, as well as the various roles from CoC to the much aligned Judges. It does not go into the "nitty-gritty", eg how to dress oil or show a flag, but recommends training days for these. By the way, it confirms BARC training and marshalling is not confined to BARC members, but is open to all.

I recommend this document to everyone: trainees to understand what is ahead of them and what different paths there are to be taken, experienced folk for a reality check, and even non-marshalling people to understand what we do and why we do it.

It must be emphasised that the document is a BARC view, and there are one or two points that other clubs will cover differently, but in general applies to us all.

I was made very welcome on a BARC training day last year when I couldn't make the local BMMC one. (not being a member of BARC).

Thanks for highlighting this it's a very good document.

Actually it's not new - new to the internet yes, but not new. I have a printed copy on my bookshelf, and when I was just starting out it's one of the things which helped me choose to give it a go. I think I came by it via meeting Louise at Pembrey and getting chatting!

4 years later I'm a member of BARC and do most of my meetings with them. Although proximity to Pembrey helps with that too.

Plus this document is quite a few years old now,so you might find certain aspects have changed.
But it does a good job of explaining the basic outlines to motorsport and roles and ranks of marshals ect.
You could even put it on your christmas list....
