Whilst browsing the BARC website, sad I know, but too cold and wet for Brands Hatch show, I came across a new document called "Marshalling with BARC".
This is a detailed and current interpretation of marshalling and officiating from the BARC point of view. It covers in detail the responsibilities of Post Chiefs, Flags, Track and Specialists, as well as the various roles from CoC to the much aligned Judges. It does not go into the "nitty-gritty", eg how to dress oil or show a flag, but recommends training days for these. By the way, it confirms BARC training and marshalling is not confined to BARC members, but is open to all.
I recommend this document to everyone: trainees to understand what is ahead of them and what different paths there are to be taken, experienced folk for a reality check, and even non-marshalling people to understand what we do and why we do it.
It must be emphasised that the document is a BARC view, and there are one or two points that other clubs will cover differently, but in general applies to us all.
