Paul Newns should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Richard Ward

Some of the Oulton guys may remember Richard Ward and his Lotus Elan a few years ago. Well I was saddened to read that Richard died recently. My abiding memory of him is from a training day.

We used to run mock race meetings and some of the local drivers would drive their roadcars and fake racing incidents. Being drivers they couldn't be trusted to remember what they were meant to do so some of us sat in and read the script for them. I was lucky enough to be sat with Richard. He came blasting down Hilltop and was to turn into Fosters the wrong way, which is very tight. There were two cars ahead of us. Richard shot between them about 150 meters from the corner, then braked hard and turned in. He was so calm about it all and chatting. That's when I realised the difference between someone who thought he was quickish (me) and a decent racing driver.

Rest in peace, Richard.

That is incredibly sad news.
I too remember a (Flag) training day at Oulton - Think it was in the old cafe (BMS?) where he and Chris Maries were our guest speakers.

Together they were a brilliant double act and had us all in stitches.
Richard was a very decent, approachable fella who would always find time to chat when in or around the paddock.

RIP Richard - A Gentleman

I have great memories of the 'flying elan' doing its thing around the twists and turns of Oulton ....a great driver and a true gentleman.
Our condolences go to Richards family and friends from all at Anglesey Circuit.
