They will eventually pull her out of the race like they did in Mid-Ohio.

That was a terrible accident for Power and Phillipe - Power has two broken vertebrae, and Phillipe a broken foot... both also have concussions. Both drivers are said to be done for the season...
Looking at the replay, I have to wonder where the marshalls were with the yellow flags and why the session wasn't immediately red flagged and all drivers told to slow down. It looks like this was an avoidable accident.
Best wish and speedy recovery to both of them!

Well done Franck, top eight in qualy on his first go is not bad, if he gets a clean run i would say a top six finish is well within his reach. Come on DanicaFan, admit it, he is pretty good. .

Glad both of the boys will be OK, that looked like it a dire situation which could have had a far worse result. I don't get the "formula backsnap" comment, I'll say again...thank God for the safety of these chassis and the regs that guided their development.
By the way, did anybody else notice that Davey Hamilton sounded like he was buzzed yesterday?

after seeing the video, it looks like it could have been worse if the impact was closer to the middle of the car. massive impact, still, and hate for the two pilots.
alas, it is motor racing and we go on today. i've always liked the OW cars on this circuit...looking forward to the race.

While the safety of these machines has improved a lot in the last few years, I don't think there's another formula in the world that has resulted in as many drivers with broken backs as Indycar - it's the nature of the sport with the oval racing, but is probably the most dangerous form of open-wheel racing today. This wasn't a typical IRL-style back injury though - I'm not sure the result would have been any different in a different series cars in the same incident. Just saying...though it might not apply in this case, the comment does have some backing.

Secondly, I hate comments like the one above, for the simple reason that they are more interested in having a dig at the series/chassis rather than hoping the drivers make a full recovery.
Fact is, it was a huge impact, and in any racing series t-bone incidents such as this, whilst rare, are often the worst kind of accident in terms of driver injury.
