McLaren teamboss Whitmarsh is cited as saying that the new track is four to five hours away from the nearest town. There seems to be a complete lack of infrastructure and hotels.

The highest priority for FOTA is not South Korea, but a return to Canada and the USA.

I thought Bernie and Max were trying to keep costs down? With 19 races that's a lot of toing and froing and it must cost a considerable amount, certainly more than the current season which has fewer races.

I dislike Canada clashing with Le Mans, but I suppose if there has to be a F1 race on that weekend, having one in North America so it starts after LM has finished is the best option. I had hoped we'd see more drivers do what Bourdais did this year though...

Regarding South Korea: According to 30 seconds of research in Google Earth, a city with a population of 250000 is about 10 km away. Not exactly in the middle of nowhere...

How certain is the event in Montreal - and since Donington is getting more unlikely every day, will there be a replacement?

Is there still a chance that Donington may be ready for 2011? Probably.
So Bernie just needs a replacement for one season.
As opposed to Bernie, Silverstone want the GP for the whole 17 years at an affordable rate.

There might be other circuits interested in a one-off event at a last-minute starting fee for 2010, but none of those are from the UK.
Who would I like to see as a replacement, besides Silverstone?

Portimao for sure. Imola deserves a chance. Indy won't be possible because the date is not back-to-back with Montreal. Dubai Autodrome could probably afford it the easiest. Magny-Cours might also be a possibility, since there are still plans for a revival of the French GP.

It's better to have a one-off replacement than no GP at all.

I think we'll see a British GP in 2010, FOTA would kick up a huge stink otherwise - and if Ari Vatanen becomes FIA president, the complexion of the situation will change hugely. I think we will be racing at Silverstone next year.

Portimao would be a good F1 venue for sure - however that ought to be at the expense of another round, probably one of the Spanish ones. Magny is supposedly being replaced by a new venue near Paris. Imola may be a nice circuit, but I'd rather each country only got one GP with the possible exception of the United States due to its sheer size. Dubai Autodrome likewise - Italy having two GPs is more justifiable than a country with 7.44% of the population and little domestic motorsport interest.

Looks like F1 is becoming more Asia centric.

Is this the first time ever that F1 will have more races in Asia (9) than in Europe (8)?

So Bernie's reaction to cost cutting and the recession is to move most races to far away places to bump up the travel costs?

It beggars belief, after all the trouble caused this year, trying to get the teams to cut their budgets it's very hypocritical. Not that I'm defending him but these countries are obviously quite willing and happy to pay for the privilege of hosting a GP and he's quite willing to take advantage of the situation. I don't think they'll be so happy when he takes it away from them.
