NASCAR Sprint Cup round 29: Kansas (Chase race 3)
Old timer got the pole: http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2009...ta/lineup.html
Practice 1 times: http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2009...e1_speeds.html
This track is only visited once in the season, so no 2009 form guide. That said, the Chicagoland race could be a good indicator for this one.

Be interisting in Practice tommorow to see if the #42 has fallen off the pace or if he just had an average run in qualifying.

Probably an average run in qualifying. I don't expect the likes of Joe nemechek and Scott Speed et al to be up front for long.
That said, this is a track where they are likely to lose out to the 48 so it's damage limitation.

best q'ing run for front row Joe in quite some time! same with JR.
Brad K showing his pace as well.
Awesome Bill still trying to find speed in the 21.
but the old man and the 5 team are really going for it. I LOVE IT!
and i do see the 48 being really strong as well. not a fan of kansas but JJ sure is.

Is it just me or does Denny always seem to be having a bit of a whinge?
As Knowlsey said if the 42 can finish in the top 3-5 again and limit how many points the 48 & 5 get away from him, the back end of the chase could/should really come alive.

Could is right...they have shown the team and the driver have what it takes to make and contend in the chase....
however, you can't replace experience, which the 42 is not weak in, but just not as strong as others. will be interesting to see how long they can keep going this well. i don't expect them to fall to far off the pace, but you have to keep pace with the 48, which has been a challenge for 40 something teams for the last few races.
they have to get past Kansas where they have no top 10s.

They run well at Kansas though. He had a nice enough finish in 2007 and took pole last year, albeit in a car deemed illegal but hey... Johnson and Martin seem to get away with it.

Nothing against JJ but I don't hope he wins a 4th in a row.

Montoya is shifting! He has the high line working well for him.
And then we have Jr (no, not Piquet) leading and leading well...

the 88 out front and the quickest car.
what is going on here?
some things are normal, however. the 24 is complaining of having the worst grip he's ever had while running in the top 10
but John Paul is blowin past folks while on rails runnin' the high side, nudgin the 24 on his way by
edit: adam, you beat me to it!

mistake by the crew on a pit stop for the 88 cost Dale the lead.
guess that's JR's fault, too.

Jr problem was a shame. Do you think he'll back on the lead lap?
We are on a bit of a 2 tyre/4 tyre choice that mixed up the order. Still Jimmie and Juan Pablo seem capable of getting back up. Montoya and Martin are side by side in another race!
The Biffster is doing well... he's not always been able to have the line he wants, but he is generally the quickest out there (especially when the unprecedented Jimmie is in the pack).
