If he carries on down this route of hikeing the price as contracts are being renewed, track owners will eventually get wise to it and won't want to host GPs. It's not good for the sport.

Does he really need more money?

The city might make money overall, but the promoters will be lucky just to break even. Melbourne loses 30+ million per Grand Prix.
