One of the most fortuitous things in my life was getting hooked up with the Atlantic series when I did. I got to see him in action in North America in 3 races in '75 and then all of the remaining races of his Atlantic career.

I wish I had gotten to see more of his F1 career in person.

That flickr picture of Gilles spinning in corner 11 @ AMP is classic stuff. Corner 1 is named after him now. He went off backwards and upside down there in his Atlantic one year. The picture is out there somewhere. Truly a great driving talent taken from us too quickly
