Who's looking good for rookie of the year?
Just thought if anyone out there have any thoughts on who should get the rookie of the year for this season. I got DiResta followed by Perez Maldonado. DeAmbrosio. Perez hoewever to me has been impressive against Kamui.

Definitely Di Resta so far, he's been occasionally beating Sutil which is no easy feat, Sutil's a pretty good driver.
Perez has also been really good, sometimes, but his Monaco accident and missing a few races didn't help. It's not as good of a comparison though because I personally think Kobayashi is overrated anyway. Sutil would beat Kobayashi. And still, Perez only has 9 points to Kobayashi's 27. Although he has had 3 more retirements.
Actually Sutil has more points than Di Resta as well, but it's not always representative - Schumacher is behind Rosberg on points, but has generally outpaced him for most of the year, apart from maybe the first 5 rounds.
Maldonaldo has been forgettable. In fact if anyone comes into F1 and can't beat an old geezer like Barrichello, who's far from his peak now, then they're not exactly going to be the next Vettel.
I'm interested in seeing what Senna can do in the remaining rounds...

I'd have di Resta from Perez and d'Ambrosio. Jerome has been quite good against Glock. Maldonado has been a bit anonymous. Ricciardo getting the better of Liuzzi in the last few races may see him overthrow Pastor.

You also have to take into account that the Force India is much faster than the Sauber.

I think that Bruno Senna should qualify, he has done a spectacular job in his first season! You couldn't possibly count his previous experience as F1, could you?
Failing that Di Resta then Perez.

Yeah, but technically he wouldn't apply for the so-called "rookie of the year" award !

In order:
1) Di Resta has shone, particularly in qualifying and had a great race last time out. After a great start to the season he had a few dodgy races, but nothing too unexpected for a new driver. Has at least the same pace of his fairly-highly rated team-mate.
2) Perez. Although I am not 100% sure of how reliable a yard-stick Kobayashi is for us to compare against.
3) Maldonardo has kept Rubens honest, but really goes down in my opinion due to his antics during qualifying at Spa.

yeah between Di Resta and Perez for me as well...but currently leaning towards Perez....
the FI and Sauber are pretty close in points although Sauber looks to be moving backwards at this point in the season which made Perez's drive in Singapore more impressive for me.
i dont know the quali stats this year but feel as though Perez has been qualifying better than Kobayashi?
Kobayashi may be overrated (i dont think so) but the impression of him is that he is exciting. Perez has had to compete against that image and the stigma of a driver who brings sponsorship dollars. maybe i root for him more because he seems the underdog but i do feel as though perception is against him yet still he delivers...i dont know if that point makes sense or not.
anyways both are being touted for top level seats in the future so the impression in the paddock must be that they are both very talented but if i had to vote right now i would go for Perez.

di resta from d'ambrosio for me.
di resta has such a mesmarising driving style, he tells the car what to do and it does it. he does so few corrections at the wheel, and in that respect he looks quite slow, but he's flippin' quick. he has made quite a few errors (how many times has he pitted for a new front wing this season), but when he hasn't he's been really impressive.
i'd put d'ambrosio ahead of perez because for me, the last really impressive drive perez did was in australia. d'ambrosio has been hassling the uber-experienced and pretty quick glock for most of the season. plus he actually managed to bin it in the pitlane which is a serious achievement
having said that, i hope perez gets a second year to see if he can be more consistently on the pace and at the front, especially because proper rookies get a tough deal. discounting his epic australian drive, what have been his other seriously good performances?

i guess im the only one who thought his Singapore drive was impressive.
as a result of his puncture from Schumi during his second stint he pitted early as a result and chose (or the team did and he made it work) to finish the second half of the race on super softs and managed to get a point!!!
Silverstone was another good race, another two stopper and a very respectable 7.
his 9th at Barcelona leading Koby home for a double points finish for the team was also exciting.
anyways im out to go start up a fan club!

Sergio Pérez has done nothing to change my highly critical opinion of him.
Paul di Resta, meanwhile, has made me look like a dumbass. Totally exceeded what I ever could have predicted from someone who did not really stand out on Fridays to me, and has been in such a foreign car for so long. So well done to him on winning the all prestigious World Rookie of the Year Championship (because what F1 needs is more alphabet soup organizations and titles )
