Silverstone Classic 2012 Touring Car Trophy-Inauguration and Feedback Thread
Hi Guy's
Following on from 2009's David Leslie Memorial Trophy race at the Classic....Touring Car's have been invited back for 2012.
The entry will span 1975 through to the year 2000....classes as follow's: - Super Touring 96-00
- Super Touring Pre 96
- Super Touring Pre 96 Non Sequential
- Group A 87-90
- Group A 83-87
- Group 1 75-83
- Group 2 75-83
- DTM/ITC
We already have 20 entries...some really special car's which havent seen a race track since their hay day.
I've posted on here to see if any of you guys know where original car's of this era are....or better still if any of you own them!
Its great that we've been given the opportunity to return to the Classic, these cars really don't have anywhere to compete currently and i'd like to think that people would like to see them back out on track again.

The Groups 1&2 cars have a place with the CTCRC and Masters That said there are many cars built to those regs so are you looking for originals? Can you also post a link to the entry forms/regs please?
BTW, I've e mailed this to someone who runs two original works touring cars.
I suspect Roger W would be interested too.

An interesting idea.
The 1975 start date will rule out some original (but pre that date) Group 1 & 2 cars currently race ready. (For example Vinc W Capri, Alex E BMW.)
Will the Group 1 cars need be to original period spec or current CTCRC / Masters regulations?
Having competed in the David Leslie Memorial races in 2009, please emphasise to the more modern tourer drivers that they are not racing in BTCC, and some of the older cars will be very valuable.........

Hi Peter and Mike
Originally we planned to run from 1980 through to 2000 sticking with mainly Group A/Supertouring.
Following conversations with various people i thought it would be great to see Batmobiles and Cologne Capri's out on track as well.
The most important aspect is the spectacle....we want as many 'iconic' genuine ex work's touring cars on the grid as possible be that a 70's CSL or a 90's Primera.
The Class1 and 2 rule's and regs have not been decided yet...we have a meeting with the HSCC on Monday...i can tell you more after that.
As far as entry forms/details, please don't hesitate to email me.
Mike driving standards will be heavily policed which ever car your driving
Cheers
Jonny

A small but significant point: The Cologne Capris were 1973/74 cars. In 1975 the "X" pack type MarkII Capris appeared. Tom Pichcoil runs the ex Holman Blackburn UFO car. These are restricted group 2 cars running 3l triple webber set ups, not the earlier dry sumped Cosworth GAA 3.4l quad cam engines. So I'm afraid the regs won't permit the Cologne Capri or indeed the 3.5l Batmobile.

Jonny,
I got your pm but you have blocked receipt of replies. I have sent to your e mail addy as you provided thanks.
As far as Gp1 is concerned the UK regs changed in 1975 to restrict the over 3500cc cars and allow further mods to suspension etc. Pre 1974, there were more restricions, although you could remove bumpers etc. which you had to retain post 1974. So, by moving the dates backwards you will get Camaros, Capris Mk1, 2 and 3, Escort RS1600, RS 1800 and 2000. So I'd recommend a cut off around 1973.
Clearly the group 1 cars will be outgunned by everything else on the grid but hey ho.
Cheers
Peter

This sounds great.
I would think that even more vehicles would be entering than in 2009's demo event?
Bert Smeets will hopefully bring his Bastos Vitesse?
Can someone please get Mad Mike Newman to enter his 635 and RS500?! Mike could drive the Sierra and get James Weaver to pedal the Bimmer...
How about our Australian friends, many of whom are tenths regulars?
Wouldn't it be great if the 2 NZ based TWR Rovers made a trip and people like Dave Towe with his 635 and M3?
I know, i'm dreaming!!

Hi Guys
Terence, we are looking for genuine ex work's car's for any of the above classes
Chunterer, some great suggestions, Peter's already been a great help and got in touch with some owners he knows....if you can find anyone please spread the word!!
We really have got some super exciting car's lined up already, time is of the essence however, we need as many paid entry's as possible by the end of November to make this happen....the grid has been offered to us now it just comes down to paying the entry fees!!
Thanks for your enthusiasm
Jonny
