Team New McLaren set to cause controversy - 10-Tenths Motorsport Forum

Mclaren will launch its car tomorrow (Feb 1), and looks set to cause a legal battle with other teams and engineers.

It is thought that McLaren have concentrated on single lap pace, because:

"McGrath added that beating qualifying master Sebastian Vettel will be crucial if McLaren is to be successful in 2012, particularly as its analysis indicated that the raw pace of last year's MP4-26 was superior towards the end of the season despite Red Bull and Vettel's run of poles."

"He must be a brilliant driver, because by the end of last season we definitely had the best car and he was still whupping us," McGrath said.

"We're trying to figure out exactly what he's doing that's so good. How does he pull out that fast qualifying lap every time? We think it's driver skill. There's no trickery on the cars, he just gets more out of it than we do."

The still missing part is that someone from McLaren said that at the end of last season they felt they had the fastest car and it was only Vettel's ability that was still getting him pole positions. Not exactly a vote of confidence in your own drivers.

In that link of mine, there was a further link to the Sky story. Now that's disappeared!

yeah doesn't seem too damning but who knows. maybe they pulled it because it went up a day too early...i guess we will find out one way or another when the wrapper comes off tomorrow.
