Good luck, wave as we go past in the opposite direction. You can buy Doyle back, I suppose.

Don't worry you have not got it wrong. West Ham are just resting at the moment.

Haha...No Simon.... I doubt that very much. Any B8 that is entered knows full well that they will be loitering at the back of the grid.
I've never raced an S2000 before. Dont even know what one looks like. But as I said to Martin O'Connell recently. I dont mind coming second last as long as he's behind me.
I'll be entering my B8 in the Martini Trophy. I look forward to racing some new guys and I'm delighted to have a varied grid. I will also be running treaded tyres... just in case you were wondering. I'm just hoping a few other B8s will give it a go so we can have a bit of a tussle. I wouldn't want to be running around at the back with nobody to play with as I get 'blown away' now would I .

They look like this, well at least the Lola's do, downside is they have a boat anchor for an engine in the form of a Ford Transit Pinto.......
See you at silverstone.

The Sports 2000's were out at a cold and overcast Silverstone GP circuit last weekend which was clearly good practice for the HSCC Martini event in May.
All the S2000's race together so a total grid of 41 with 13 Historic cars out and seemingly a good number have entered or will be entering the HSCC event.
The racing was pretty close as you can see from below. The 3 historics in the 1st photo are my Lola, a Royale and a Tiga, the black and red Shrike 'jelly mold' is a later car.

Kevin

Entry list for the Martini races at Silverstone on the 19th and 20th shows 13 Historic S2's out of 30 entries, 4 Lola T492's, 6 Tiga's, 2 Royale's and a single Chevron so the S2 cars should have a decent race amongst themselves.
Not a bad start for an invitation class.

Kevin,
it looks like you enjoyed the experience. Did the S2000 class go down well with others in the race? What tyres were you allowed to race? Could you use up the leftovers from last year or did you have to run this years radials?
Have S2 been invited to any more races?
Graham.

Graham,
We had a great time, Chris Snowdon won the S2000 class both races and finished in the top 10 overall on Sunday with Peter Needham 2nd and me 3rd. On Saturday I was 2nd to Chris with Mike Johns 3rd.
I found the HSCC guys and the Martini drivers to be very welcoming and whole event to be great fun.
Highlights of the weekend.
1. Qualyfying ahead of some sedately driven Group 6 cars in the wet Saturday qualy.
2. In the 1st race pushing a Lola 212 so hard in the slow corners that in a effort to get the power down early he spun in front of me and I sailed by to finish ahead and we had a very friendly chat post race.
3. In the 2nd race chasing Peter Needham hard for two/three laps but luckily recognising after being baulked by a slowing Chevron B36 that I was dredging the bottom of my talent tank so happily settled for 3rd.
Re Tyres we ran to current SRCC regs so the new radials, re further invites we are awaiting feedback but heres hoping.
Re lap times my best was a 2.20 with Chris Snowdon down in the 2.16's so on par or slightly better than the B8's in the Guards Trophy.
Regards
Kevin

Good to hear you had a good time.
Also good to see Mr Pye giving it a good thumbs up in Autosport.
Good luck for further invitations. Mind and let me know when the Monaco Historique come calling with the offer of a race.

I am just amazed it has taken this long for HSCC and SRRC to find a way of getting the Historic S2000 out with HSCC.
Why not invite them into the Guards Sports racer series so they can play with the equally paced B8's and therefore release twin cams back to the period correct Guards?

Simon,
I don't think combining cars on slicks with period treaded racers is the way to go, I think that it could lead to issues as late 70's early 80's S2's would probably be the fastest cars on anything other than the fastest circuits.
Even at Silverstone Chris Snowdon's best lap was near 1/2 sec quicker than that of the race winning B8.
We'll be very happy supporting the Martini and perhaps in the longert term trying to replicate the success of of FF2000.
If we get to run at the BHGP superprix weekend where the Martini is a suppport race to the Historic F1 it'll be history repeating itself for my car. It ran in the Thundersport race in support of the European GP at Brands in 1983. Yes sadly I have tracked the entire history of my car.
Regards
Kevin

I hope thee is a way you guys run long trm with HSCC. I have been tempted for some considerable time by historic S2000 but the meetings you run with have never held much interest.
Do you have Robert Parker's old car?

So do I.
Re my car no it was not Robert Parkers, it is HU72.
As I said I have a fairly complete and detailed history of the car, the previous active owner was Tony Maryon who raced it sucessfully from 2003-2007, I bought it in 08.
Between 1988 and 2000 it was hillclimbed with a longtail body in the UK and Guernsey, 85-87 it ran as a 1300 in 750MC with the Longtail body and between 79 and 84 S2000 and Thundersports.
The headlight cut outs MP mentioned in Autoport were done on one of my nose sections as the German HRA require S2's to have lights for thier 100 mile races and I thought the roll bar mounted spots I used at Spa the other year not only looked odd but they shine straight into the mirrors.
Regards
Kevin

The HS2's are out again with the Martini cars at the BHGP Superprix this weekend, only 5 cars due to a clash of dates with the SRCC meeting at Donington.
We're pretty sure of getting a much better turn out for the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton where I would not be surprised if HS2 cars made up 50% of the grid.
I'm having a great year so far, following the HSCC meeting at Silverstone I did the Spa summer clasic where due to falling off in the 1st race (yes I'm rubbish in the wet) in the 2nd race I went from the back of the grid of 35 cars to 12th place and 2nd in the HS2 class (most of the top 10 were modern Duratec cars).
Looking forward to BHGP as I've only done it twice before 1 race and 1 trackday.
If any one one is interseted in HS2 cars pop over and say hello we're at the back of the paddock along the fence (i.e on the left as you enter).
Regards
Kevin
