2013 Indianapolis 500 practice
So, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is open!
35 entries are entered so far, including 10 part-time entries for veterans Ryan Briscoe, Buddy Lazier, Townsend Bell, Michel Jourdain Jr, rookies Pippa Mann, Carlos Muñoz, Conor Daly and AJ Allmendinger, and two entries by Ed Carpenter Racing and Sam Schmidt Motorsports with no confirmed drivers.
Josef Newgarden has clocked a 40.8603 second lap, or for purists, a lap at 220.263 mph average.
Carlos Muñoz had a best lap at 216.794 mph, so there's a preliminary range of lap speeds.

Looks like Carpenter is pointing, shooting and turning left flat footed better than anyone else today.

So Eric Bachelart is working for Lazier, didn't know that.

Well, with the Pole day successes of Alex Tagliani in the #77 car in previous years, Sam Schmidt's team clearly had figured out how to run the Speedway a while ago. Now with the highly regarded road racer Pagenaud and speed chart pre-season testing champion Vautier on the team, they could very well use an oval expert for their #99 entry. Having such a driver on board will be beneficial to the competitiveness of the other 2 cars, too. Here's hoping for Schmidt that they can get the funding for the #99 ready ASAP.
Also, with Carpenter's Vision/Walker team being THE team to beat, having won the Fontana race over a similar distance in the fall, the team's 2nd car, #40, would surely make some valuable contributions regarding the amount of data - and might even be a 2nd shot at the win for this team. How on earth Ed thinks his 2nd car is just an entry list filler is beyond me. I mean, come on, this is a winning team after all. Hence, this car could quickly become a contender if it actually existed.
Has anybody actually seen it in the garage area?

Looks like Andretti Autosport has their act together. If they make me pull for Ganassi I'm going to be seriously ****ed.

Looking at the speed charts from the previous days, it's great to see Andretti Autosport doing so well. But Team Rahal currently seems to be still looking for speed.

The situation is similar to last year...tows are playing a big role in the speed charts...it's difficult to make predictions, but maybe quailifying will be the same of 2012: a lot a fast drivers will start from the middle-rear of the field...
