Knockhill for BTCC- August
I'm planning on doing the BTCC at Knockhill in August. Never been before so don't know much about the surrounding area.
Initially was going to camp - found a site at Kinross, but it does come across as being quite busy with those spectator types!
Travelodge in Dunfermline sounds ok and I'm thinking it's probably a bit closer to the track?
Any advice from the locals/regulars

I stayed at the Dumferline Travelodge last year and it was OK, the usual standard. It's about 15 minutes from the circuit and there are a couple of reasonable pub restaurants a few minutes away.
Knockhill is excellent. Usually good racing and really friendly.
You wont need to worry about lunch it's provided. Walter's pies are terrific.

If you can afford it, there is a Holiday Inn Express across the road from the travelodge, also think there is a new premier inn in Dunfermline now. Roads around the circuit are quite narrow and twisty, so anticipate plenty of traffic jams. Getting out will also be an issue.

So the travelodge has improved since I was there a couple of years ago? That was the reason I use Holiday Inn Express. The ASDA is ok for getting supplies and has a petrol station for cheapish fuel.

Travelodge is £130 for two nights, whereas Premier Inn is £234 - I know they're much better but it's really only somewhere to sleep. Holiday Inn is fully booked, so it's a non starter. Will book TL I think, just don't like how they charge your CC before you stay!
Thanks Chaps!

I was the marshal that used to organise the BBQ (which was supplied by the SMRC and their committee members) and drivers talk, unfortunatly it never happened last year and unless I can get volunteers from the local marshals it seems unlikely that it will happen again this year, sorry

Before you book the Travelodge try some of the local B&Bs. There used to be a couple of good ones I stayed at but unfortunately they have both closed. There are some usually listed on Knockhill's website and the local TIC may be able to help find somewhere.

Paul I've found that B&bs very rarely accommodate a family of 5 unless it's 2 rooms. Then it starts getting expensive. Looked at the ones on Knockhills website and none can fit us in. Nothing really too wrong with Travelodge so long as you're not expecting much to start with. Will it be a bank holiday in Scotland that weekend too?

How far is the Falkirk north premier inn away from the circuit? £105 cheaper than Dunfermline but does the extra distance cancel out the saving?

stewie, what kind of help do you need with the BBQ? We have yet to sort out accommodation, but while we won't be staying at the circuit, we might be available to help out with the cooking before we go, if that's any good to you?

I've very rarely had an issue with traffic on leaving the circuit. Speccys normally leave after last BTCC race and the traffic flow is well managed by the boys and girls of Fife constabulary!
Sadly I wont be attending this year as it coincides with my sons 21st birthday.
