Round 4 - Spielberg
A very interesting qualification at Zeltweg. Mercs were sliding, BMW were close to get 3 out of 4 in top, Eki's smart move in 3 part.
But. What's going on? Is it true that the race is to begin half an hour earlier because ARD (German TV) is showing a film about Qween Elizabeth II? Is it racing or a TV show in fact?

Great effort by Mortara. His last sector time was blindingly quick. Paffett continues to be Mr consistent this year by having another good quali session.

According to TV listings on ard.de it starts indeed 30 minutes earlier.

It is not that odd that Sportingevents are scheduled according to TV-needs. We see it nowadays at the Australian and Asian F1-races. I can remember that a few years ago the race on the Norisring did not start until 17:30, because of the final stage of the Tour the France. Unfortuntely the cyclists drove so slowly that the finished even later in Paris, and the first 20 minutes of the race was not broadcasted.

But to change start time because of a queen of different country?
The delay because of the Tour de France was ridiculous because everyone who has watched Tour de France knows the first part of the last stage is slow. If DTM had started on the normal time there was plenty of time to show the last 2 hours of Tour.

One of the least boring races! Great to see BMW, Mercedes and Audi all fighting over the lead.

After the snoozefest of Brands it was the perfect antidote really.

Great race by Mortara. He just pipped Paffet at the last pitstops. But I think he closed the door just a fraction to late, forcing Paffet on the grass. That could have been dangerous, we know what can happen if a drivers loosses control at the inside of the hairpin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hRhHUs-bJA

I know I'm late... finally got a chance to see the race (vacation + being in the US).
All I can say is... "who is this DTM and hopefully it takes that other DTM and keeps it locked away!" because this was an exciting race instead of the snoozefest. I know tracks, etc., have some parts to do with it... but I'll be honest and say this is the first race I truly enjoyed watching this year!
