wsr moscow
Don't know where to better ask it, but are there any good tips to follow when going to WSR event? I'm planning a visit to Moscow round and would like to get the maximum of it, especially in terms of taking pictures. I understand each track would have its own organizational issues, but still. Thanks in advance!

the world series by renault phone app is a good place to start - the live timing feature is very useful when you're out and about at the circuit. they've made it for both android and the iphone - links are on the wsr website.
i think they're bringing the whole circus, so there's the historic displays of old renaults, and the new ones plus the dacia range they sell in your area as well. you can expect a very similar timetable on both days - i've attached a copy of the nurburgring one as an example.
there's a pitlane walkabout on both days where all the megane and fr3.5 drivers will be available for autographs, plus if you're lucky the f1 driver doing the demo. if you're going with a family there's bouncy castles (er, that probably doesn't translate - look at the photos on the wsr website ) and games for the children to play, and free posters and probably a small programme too.
the highest placed driver in the championship standings not attached to a f1 team will have a go in the f1 car at some point over the moscow weekend which should be interesting.
they haven't finished the circuit yet, but from a photo point of view you'll be able to get pictures on the pitlane walkabouts. it looks like there will be fencing all around the circuit so you'll struggle with taking photos of the cars, but they're the kind of thing you'll want to video anyway. the noise is quite something
is there anything else you were wanting to know about the event in general?

Seems it would be hard But anyway, they spread free tickets here, so not attending this event would be strange (let alone the fact that I would go there for money as well), even if there will be little opportunity to take pics.

you might find there isn't fencing everywhere, or that there are spectator areas that let you see over it, it all depends on whether the circuit is flat or not and how many stands there are. but from the photos i saw on twitter about a month or two ago, it looked like fencing was going up trackside all around
if it wasn't for the visas, paperwork and one or two other problems i would have gone, but the expense is just too much.
enjoy it! the wsr is one of the best events in europe for spectators, and yes, the fact it's free really helps you to enjoy it that little bit more
is the circuit actually finished yet, do you know?

It has to be. But WSR will be an inaugural event for it. Fairly, I was surprised to hear about Moscow Raceway once more after it was announced that F1 comes to Sochi in 2014, as it was developed as an F1 track first of all. At least, it was marketed as such. I hope they will finish the work until WSR comes, but you might have heard about cancelled GT and Superleague Formula events in Russia in previous years. Hope that is in the past.

http://moscowraceway.com/eng/index.php This may help follow the news.
Maybe it is worth to start a separate thread for this? I see I'm taking a Nuerburgring round discussion away, sorry.

i have to admit, i wasn't totally convinced it was going to happen until the organisation sent around the information about letters of invitation for visas and import stuff. especially after seeing the photos from the renault person who went to have a look at the place.
i'm sure it's going to be a good event though - wsr has a history of being the first big "circus" to visit brand new circuits, and they're bringing everything they have for the european events so there'll be plenty to do and see. there's lots of local drivers, and a 'local' team in fr3.5 as well, so hopefully they put on a great show!
as soon as i see a copy of the timetable i'll post it here for you

Thank you I will be checking the news as well, and if I happen to take any worthy pics, I'll share them later. Hope I can deal with 22GB from Le Mans by then already

Russia has a stronghold in WSR, with one team (RFR) and three drivers (Aleshin, Move, Martsenko).

it's bigger than that, it's four - they still have nebylitskiy too
rfr do indeed race under a russian licence now rather than spanish one as kmp racing in the past few years.

Aleshin had nothing to do, as he couldn't find money to enter F1. And that's one of the biggest problems for our drivers, who have to hang around those 'almost F1' stages.
Also, I think you forgot Daniil Kvyat in 2.0, who's our fifth

i've attached the current timetable for moscow - oddly, they're having a race start simulation on friday for the eurocup - i guess that's for the circuit's benefit as much as anything else!

Sirotkin replaces Verturini at BVM. It will be very interesting to see how he gets on. I rate him highly after his Auto GP cmapaign so far

bird fastest in morning testing, with everyone saying they could have gone faster had there not been a red flag near the end:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/101155
the fact that the place is safe for racing and was fia approved the other week is fair enough, but is it safe for spectators? would be interested to hear and see what locals going to the race think and see. we're obviously used to a, er, slightly more finished standard of things here.
