F1 returning to the Nordschleife?
Simply put, would you like it or not?
Discuss.

You'd need to dramatically recast the technical regulations, crash through a brick wall of political resistance but yeah if you could whip the cars into shape and make the politics disappear I'd be up for it. Ah, if things where only that simple. As it is even with the modern track they are having a horrific time making ends meet.

no, because of everything that would need to happen for it *to* happen.
but i'd like to see f1 drivers let off the leash to go and race in other stuff and do whatever they want more often. if that would happen to be say, racing in the nurburgring 24 for example then that would be really interesting.

No, thank you. They would require far too much to be changed, that it would no longer BE the Nordschliefe. Just as Spa is no longer Spa.
If you want your circuit neutered, invite F1 to play...

Totally, with the track as is, don't F1-ise it. While we're at it, let's re-open Rouen, and the Old Spa. I wonder how fast the current F1 cars could take the Masta Kink at and how many g's they'd be pulling through there.

Nick Heidfeld took a Sauber around a few seasons ago, I believe. He really had to tiptoe around as the track is nowhere near smooth enough to accomodate the F1 car of today - they just don't have the ground clearance to do it.
Graz: great points. I mean, how about reopening Brooklands or racing on the banking at Monza...

You wouldn't touch the track. You'd rework the cars. If the deal was to rework the track, well there'd be no deal with me.

Rework the cars into what? Something else so heavily imbued with crumple zones that they no longer resemble open-wheelers?
I'm surprised someone with 3k+ posts is asking this question, all the reasons for why it will never happen and why it should never happen are well understood.

Well, they hillclimb open wheelers don't they? They run at Monte Carlo don't they? Alright 'rework' as in kick out the tech regs and 'reinvent'......
O.K maybe the sums just fail even on paper but it's a worthwhile thread and an interesting question to kick around. We get an opportunity to pause and reflect on the changes that have sweeped the sport since the more mythical, death defying age of yesteryear.
