Phoenix Park Races 2012 - Marshals wanted

"Motorsport Ireland have today confirmed that the famous Phoenix Park Motor Races will take place on the 18th & 19th of August. This will be the 110th anniversary of the event since the event first ran in 1903 and will also take place in the year of the 350th anniversary of Phoenix Park itself."

Although the races are not what they once were (what is!), this is definitely an event for the Marshalling Bucket List!

There's nothing quite like it for atmosphere and at 110 years old, it's one of the oldest annual motor races in the world.

If you'd like to marshal a little piece of history, you'd be very welcome.

The Mondello Track Team are working very hard to organise discount accommodation and possibly travel, but details are TBC. Anyone who volunteers will be updated as soon as any information is available.

Details on the event can be found here

The Chief Marshal is Paula Bartley-Griffin and she can be contacted at mondelloparktrackteam@gmail.com

Hope to see you there!

Yes, I had a look earlier - is that post really called "Ordinance Survey", or should it be Ordnance Survey (like the map-making organisation)?

I didnt like to just change it as it may well be correct.

Unfortunately I am already committed to Lotus Day at Brands Hatch. Really enjoyed the last time, starter in the cherry-picker, and highly recommend to anyone tempted to give it a try.

...and Terri, if you get the chance to re-visit Sky F1 Brundle's Grid Walk, look in the background whilst Brundle is waiting to talk to Vettel. Who's that giving a lift to Massa, through the pitwall fence??

You're quite right, it was a typo. And it's called that because it's at the entrance to Ordnance Survey Ireland.

So, are any more travelling marshals having a weekend over in Phoenix Park? Or is the English contingent just going to be Paul, Jason and myself?

The chief clerk (Ann?) was meant to have forwarded an email to the chief marshal. I have emailed Paula at Mondello just in case. Let you know as soon as I hear anything.
