Not gonna happen. He had his chances and time has moved on.

I've read rumours it might be Heikki Kovalainen at Ferrari for 2013.

I think that is far more likely. In the past I have championed the cause of Nick Heidfield, but although he's always shown potential, he's never really appeared able to string a run of good results together. This has also become worse as the years have progressed.
Sadly, I have also championed the cause of Kovaliainen in the past, I hope I've not put the same hex on him too!

As someone who always was a Heidfeld fan since his first season of F3, I would like to see it happen but it doesn't seem too realistic. My guess is that he will sooner or later become a Porsche or Toyota works driver having a shot at Le Mans.

Goodness me. Shall I start a similiar "rumour" thread about how I think that Gianni Morbidelli is the man for the job?
Ferrari are not short of a bob or two, and will be able to choose from a number of very good current drivers, so it would make no sense whatsoever for them to go for used-to-be-quick-Nick.

Oh God, not Heidfeld. Potential that never materialized into results and now he is relegated to a new career as being "under consideration" when a seat opens up somewhere. Next up: Tonio Liuzzi.
Let the dead rest.

He did nothing but stringed a run of good results together (including the most consecutive finishes in F1 history)

Unless you consider ALWAYS SCORING MORE POINTS THAN YOUR TEAM-MATES (Raikkonen, Massa, Kubica and Webber) some sort of result I suppose
Nick vs Kimi --------- 12 - 9
Nick vs Massa ------- 7 - 4
Nick vs Webber ----- 28 - 24
Nick vs Kubica ------ 153 - 137
In other words he scored 200 points while Kimi, Massa, Webber and Kubica managed 174 in the other car. Considering that Kimi, Massa, Webber and Kubica all are or were key drivers for the very top teams (including Mclaren, Ferrari, Red Bull and Lotus/Renault) I would call it some sort of result after all (of course not amazing results like what Heikki or Sutil have in their CV's , but still not too shabby )

But but but!!
Thing is, most of those guys either whilst he was their teammate or afterwards showed they were generally quicker than Heidfeld was or were clearly thought to have better longer term potential than Nick, that's why they went on to get the drives they did and he didn't.
Life ain't fair.

There are strong rumors here in Mexico that Perez will go to Ferrari next year with Telmex backing. Gutierrez will slot in at Sauber with Kobayashi. Santander according to the article will sponsor less on the cars next year. I guess this belongs in a different thread

sorry just to clarify, there is no "rumour" in this, I don't know what put rumour at the front, this was just something I was chatting through with others while watching the GP and we walked through available drivers for the second Ferrari seat, and I hadn't considered Nick until we'd actually run into pretty big issues with the younger/up coming options and pretty big financial issues with the proven talent, so Nicks name came up.
wasn't a suggestion or a push for this to happen, more a disucssion point, nothing to do with Nicks wasted talent or anything like that, just out of F1 drivers available, on paper he actually looks the perfect man for the role.

Rubbish, from the utter type First of all how can you be slower than your team-mate but latter, whlist racing for a top team show that you are quicker than him after all, that makes about zero point zero sense.
Second of all, he outqualified Raikkonen, outqualified Massa and tied (27-27) with Kubica (and actually outscoring and outqualifing him for their 3rd and last season together too, which couldnt make your point more invalid and just goes on to show that if a lot of people say "Kubica is faster than Nick" some will believe it)
The only exception is Webbo, whos been outscored by Nick, but managed to outqualify him, I give you that. (just for the record, guess who scored the only pole position for Williams that year? thats right, it was Nick)

The thread title 'Heidfeld Second Ferrari Seat 2013 ?' lacks clarity. It astonishingly implies that Ferrari are actively considering hiring Heidfeld. 'What about Heidfeld for 2nd Ferrari Seat?' might have been a better title as it makes fairly clear that it is the OP proposing that Ferrari should consider NH.
Frankly, Ferrari could do worse than hire Heidfeld but there's so much better out there too; drivers with better prospects, better sponsorship, younger and in the spotlight.
